Has it gone through your family?

I'm struggling.
DH tested positive on Monday, sister Saturday and I took my son tonight as he is showing symptoms. I'm in bed with a hot, sore throat and I'm terrified that its going through all of us and someone could get seriously ill.
Have any of experienced this? Kept DH separate but feel vulnerable now and I'm scared.

My SIL tested positive then DBro got a sore throat and DN a cough. DB & DN both tested negative.

All recovered in under a week.

A friend got it very bad tested positive and coughed & coughed for 3 weeks, neither her DH or 2 adults children that live with them caught it.

It seems v random to me.

minipie · 11/11/2020 22:46

I know several families who have had it, some had it very mildly others felt pretty bad for a week or two but all recovered. They are in their 40s with primary age children.

MummaPI · 11/11/2020 22:49

Thanks, it does seem so random doesnt it. Really hoping we all get through it. I'm a worrier and was doing so well but tonight I'm finding it difficult.

I'm a worrier and always think worse case scenario so can understand how stressful this must be but try not to worry, yes it's possible you might all get it and be poorly but try to think not about endless possibilities but about what is probable and in this situation statistically you are most probably not going to catch it or if you do you will suffer a mild bout - try and focus on that.

MummaPI · 11/11/2020 22:57

Thanks Jammy, we're day 5 and I've held it together so far...but wobbling tonight

Just happened here. Living with my in-laws atm due to a house move. All 5 of us in the house got it. We were so worried as DH has diabetes and FIL has MS. Anyway we didn't need to worry - we've had worse colds. I hope that you get as lucky as we did. But just to let you know that it doesn't always have to be awful XX

MummaPI · 11/11/2020 23:24

Thank you @iamloading

I've just had it- husband and 3 kids never got it (and we're tested a couple of times)
My main symptom was a horrendous headache for a week. All good now tho.
I didn't isolate from any of them - quite impractical. Mum and dad in our childcare bubble also didn't get it off me (or at least any symptoms) and have both tested negative during their isolation.

MrBloomsLeftVeg · 12/11/2020 03:48

My DH has had it but we haven't. Not mild for him either.

MummaPI · 12/11/2020 08:14

I have a question for those who have family members in the same household who have all got it.
How does isolation work? If we are 4 days in to our isolation and another one of us tests positive now, do we reset?

It’s a nightmare isn’t it? I had a test yesterday, waiting for results so now have dc at home waiting. Dd1 has a important hospital appointment in 2 weeks so I’m really hoping we haven’t got it.

There’s more info about isolating on the direct gov website and what to do if another family member comes down with it whilst your all self isolating.

Crakeandoryx · 12/11/2020 09:00

I know a lot of families who have had it all 40's with kids and everyone has been fine. I also have older relatives in their 70's and 80's who've had it and are all thankfully ok.

I know of one person who needed a bit of extra oxygen via a paramedic but stayed at home and is fully recovered.

Rest up, eat when you can, drink lots and lots of hot drinks and take pain killers. Very very few people need assistance.

Bobtheshark · 12/11/2020 09:13

I only know 2 people that have had it. In both cases none of the people the live with got it. It’s a strange virus.

starrynight19 · 12/11/2020 09:14

In my experience it didn’t spread through the whole family , in my friends it did but children barely showed any symptoms.

Noidea2114 · 12/11/2020 09:24

My DD 35 had it in a very mild form (loss of smell/taste, sore throat and headache) SIL and 3 DGC didn't get it tested negative.
Neighbour 53 caught it in March on a cruise came home on the Thursday, dead on the Saturday.
None had other health problems.
It seems a very confusing virus.

Wife had positive Corona test early October, I tested negative same day. Both had symptoms before the test. The next few days she deterioted badly. Ended up in hospital for a few days before coming home and us isolating for the remainder of required time.

My symptoms cleared up in a few days and I was fine. My 5 Yr old son had no symptoms at all.

Wife still poorly, off work etc.

I did antibody test last Wednesday- results back on Friday - No antibodies!!

So either I never had it, maybe just had a cold. But seems crazy (although not uncommon) that I or my son didn't go on to catch it from her as my house isn't big at all.

Having spoken to doctor friends they are firm belivers in the T Cell theory that normal people can't test for and that's why I never developed antibodies as had pre existing immunity.

Very pleased I avoided it as my wife (41, teacher) was in such a bad way. If I'd got it bad I don't know who would have looked after my son

Someonesayroadtrip · 12/11/2020 10:02

My friends son had it recently, my daughters class had to isolate, no one else in his family got it though, even though they were in close proximity as he was very poorly and only 6.

ginberry4 · 12/11/2020 11:13

OP Does this help answer your question about isolating?

You don’t all reset - only the new person who tests positive.

MummaPI · 12/11/2020 13:17

@ginberry4 yes thank you!
