Cold symptoms but no taste or smell? Anyone else?

A few days ago I started with a persistent cough and sneezing and headache so I isolated straight away with my husband and children.

A few days has past and I have no taste or smell, I think it could be blocked sinus'.
I had a test done yesterday due to working for NHS and still awaiting results, I was in positive contact 2 weeks ago with 4 positive cases.
I know cold and things are still around but I've never lost my senses before, anyone else? Thanks.

This was my other half last week. He tested positive.

Loss of taste and/or smell is classic Covid - one of the really characteristic symptoms.

spongebobscaredypants · 11/11/2020 12:14

Sounds like it's a positive

Jrobhatch29 · 11/11/2020 12:19

My cousin is like this now. She's positive

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 11/11/2020 12:50

That couldn't be more classic with the headache, persistent cough and the loss of taste and smell.

Results came back and its positive, 0 hour hospital bank staff means no pay, nightmare!

I have the same symptom, got a test this morning as I’m a care worker, hoping my results come back tomorrow. I have a dry cough and a weird feeling up my nose which is causing a slight head ache, I don’t really feel unwell so I’m hoping just a cold. I’m dreading being told I have to stay home and the kids having to isolate, I’m self employed so won’t get paid.

Surely that’s been the case whilst you’ve been self isolating this past fortnight as well?

You should have been isolating for a fortnight Due to contact with 4 others (HOW?!) but say you have only since you’ve had symptoms. Hope you’ve not been spreading it around all over the place.

Your entire household needs to isolate now.

Motnight · 11/11/2020 14:25

You work in the NHS with direct contact with patients? Shouldn't you have been already isolating from 2 weeks ago?

DanceThen · 11/11/2020 14:28

Presumably the contact was a hospital patient?

Lovemusic33 · 11/11/2020 14:30

If she was in contact at work I’m guessing she would have been wearing PPI ? Of that was the case then she wouldn’t have isolated straight away. If it was another contact then she might no have been told until a week or so after contact (the app)?

Lovemusic33 · 11/11/2020 14:31

PPE

OP says 4 positive cases.

Hard to imagine how that could happen (should be PPE-ed to the max)

If there was PPE worn correctly then she wouldn’t be defined as a contact.
Loobieloo27 · 11/11/2020 14:36

The contact was a staff member and a bay of patients, at this point we all had medical masks, because I work for the NHS it's not officially positive contact because of the mask. Infection control at the hospital gave us swabs at that point and told didn't need to isolate. 2 weeks later I've developed symptoms and isolated straight away.

I work on a green ward which means patients are tested negative on arrival to our ward, however some are being retested and coming back positive, our ppe is medical mask and white pinny

There we go. So not actually a contact of a positive case at all.
