Do you think schools will be closed a week early so we be with parents/grandparents for Christmas?

@3littlewords exactly, it’s one day. What is wrong with everyone?! I haven’t been to my home town for 14 months. Haven’t seen any immediate family since February. It’s still one day!!!!

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

I hope they do. But if not I would c9nsider pulling him.our for the last week. School are already bringing Christmas activities forward as I imagine they are expecting this. Had an email earlier to say that Santa in school is at the beginning of December. It's usually the last week. So they're either expecting govt to close schools early, or assuming parents will pull kids out. Either way fucking bonus
:)

Absolutely ridiculous idea. What about families who don’t celebrate Xmas? Families who don’t want to see wider family? They should just accept their kids are going to miss a week of school? Another week of stress for parents having to juggle WFH (those who can!) and childcare. I’d love a big family Xmas as usual but if it isn’t possible it isn’t possible.

No one seems to be answering my question...
To those who think this is a good idea, do you work out of the house?

Dozer · 12/11/2020 06:44

Presumably not!

Such a policy would further exacerbate inequalities for DC, with negative impact for DC who didn’t receive education and/or in difficult circumstances.

HairyToity · 12/11/2020 06:49

I hope not. I'd rather have DC in school, due to me and DH going out to work. Christmas is only one day. DH would still be meeting people at work anyway, so he wouldn't necessarily be covid free. If someone feels so strongly about grandparents they can take theirs out early.

RedskyAtnight · 12/11/2020 09:27

Just because Christmas isn't a big deal for you, doesn't mean it isn't for millions of people across the country.

But why does what most people mean by "Christmas" have to happen on 25th December?

If the government said that all household mixing was totally banned on 25th December but people were free to mix households from 30th December, would half the country really decide if they couldn't meet on the 25th they wouldn't bother at all? Or would they just move their family "Christmas" to another day?

Those people saying schools should let parents choose to keep their children at home , imagine the uproar if school staff asked to have this choice for themselves and their children.

imagine the uproar if school staff asked to have this choice for themselves and their children.

Being paid to do a job is a slightly different situation.

However, i don’t think they should do this. We all know a hefty proportion of those pulling their children from school wouldn’t bother isolating in that time, thus rendering it all pointless.

Mass testing is probably the better solution for a safer extended family Christmas. However I doubt they’ll have the infrastructure in place.
