My hairdresser is "opening" as wfh?!?

I have received a message from my hairdresser to let me know that due to the lockdown the salon will be opening as though working from home (so, one hairdresser and one client only in the salon). Is this allowed? I am not sure what the point of the economic chaos caused by the lockdown is if everyone is finding their own way to "work around" it.

I know it's very controversial but we have done the same with our gym (which was only ever a 121 training studio anyway).

We have had to make a decision between following the lockdown rules and being able to pay our mortgage and eat this month.

That's how stark the choice is.

Perhaps the hairdresser is in the same position?

Many of us slipped through the net of any kind of useful amount of financial assistance and now have these stark choices to make unfortunately.

At the beginning I would have said we were one of the least likely people to bend any rules - we are generally pro-lockdown and have stuck to everything else.

Can't you just train outside though? Sure it may be different for heavy weightlifters but they can still get some form of training in. That's what my PTs are doing.

I have a friend who is a hairdresser and still working privately. She has a mortgage and bills and 2 small children. These costs don't go away for self employed people in a lockdown.

I don't condone it. But I wouldn't be rushing to report her either, needs must.

Everyone isn't. Some people are. The greater the economic chaos the more people will decide they've got to work around it.

She's mad putting it in writing. Round here word of mouth told you which barber would do you a haircut in your garden. He was careful who he took on. Like bloody drug dealing. We did not use his services, we did not grass him up, we went back to him in the shop when he reopened.

Good for her I think it’s terrible hairdressers have been forced to close.

MrsFogi · 10/11/2020 22:38

I've had another look at her message - she owns the salon (she is not a hairdresser herself, she has hairdressers working for her) and is suggesting that she is organising one to one appointments in her house (so I take it she is getting her hairdresser(s) to work from her home (and calling this wfh!!

I was coming on here to say similar things - I'm also one of the 2.9 million people who have had no financial help. I imagine there's a good chance the hairdresser has fallen through the same cracks, and this is a last ditch attempt to pay the rent and put food on the table.

I was just wondering yesterday whether 121 personal training sessions would be allowed outdoors in England, as you are allowed to meet one other person outdoors, as long as you socially distance.

Permitted in a public outdoor setting.

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/11/2020 07:01

Apparently my gym (big nationwide premium chain) has been having people who are paying for personal training in one at a time. So they’re still having their regular PT sessions. I’m shocked.

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 07:04

There's nothing wrong with her working from home but anyone travelling to her would be the ones breaking the rules as it wouldn't be necessary travel.

Oh I see you say she'd open the salon. That wouldn't be allowed, no, not even with no customers!
