Fucking brilliant news. I could cry.

OP posts:

Its great news.

SauvignonGrower · 09/11/2020 15:52

I'm so happy. And so sad. I'll be high up the list thanks to high risk medical conditions. But I'm pretty sure I had COVID back in March and have been suffering from long Covid ever since. So it's too late for me. Still... if others don't have to suffer then it is a wonderful thing.

Crakeandoryx · 09/11/2020 15:54

I really hope the government can get the rollout of this right. They have to be able to do something ok. I agree do not give the organisation of this to your mates, get people in who know what they're doing 🤞

Flamingolingo · 09/11/2020 15:57

It’s great news. And this is a source I would trust taking a closer look at the data (which is favourable) but also the logistics (less so).

You all seem very keen to have it. Are you all from the very vulnerable group?

SunbathingDragon · 09/11/2020 15:59

I just hope enough people have it for it to work.

Redcherries · 09/11/2020 16:04

The very high vulnerable group is about sixth on the list if the one being touted a little while back is true, it'll be NHS, care workers and the elderly first, working down in age.

But, even if we're not the first as each tier is vaccinated we become that bit safer as it will be spreading less.

I got a bit teary too, but husband and son are warning me not to get too giddy yet. I see it as hopefully the start of the end for it.

DivGirl · 09/11/2020 16:05

How lasting is the immunity? Why are people crying with joy over this? What am I missing?

FourTeaFallOut · 09/11/2020 16:06

Well that's the best thing about the 90% rate of effectiveness because you are not as reliant on the compliance of those who won't vaccinate to make a vaccine roll out worth while.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 09/11/2020 16:07

Great news- and it's had a really positive impact on the stock market too!!

FourTeaFallOut · 09/11/2020 16:07

We don't know how long lasting the immunity is, yet. We'll have to learn to live with that.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/11/2020 16:08

Except for shares in Zoom. They have plunged.

Magissa · 09/11/2020 16:09

A vaccine for a new illness. Vaccine trials usually take much longer. Long term effects?

That made me smile. I loathe Zoom with a passion!

I am CV, yes. I've already had covid - tested positive just over 5 weeks ago, but still off work and still recovering.

However, as immunity likely drops, this vaccine offers some hope going forward.

I am hoping plenty of people, not just the vulnerable, will have it to help reduce the prevalence of covid across the country and the likelihood of more vulnerable people catching it.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/11/2020 16:09

Yes, I'm extremely clinically vulnerable.

Firefliess · 09/11/2020 16:10

It's fantastic news 🙂. Of course we don't know how long immunity lasts, but I'm not really fussed if we all have to have a jab once a year to maintain immunity.

It will, and must, mean a return to normality gradually over the next year. Grin

IcedPurple · 09/11/2020 16:12

Has someone been along to say 'You do realise it's not going to be a silver bullet?" yet?

ssd · 09/11/2020 16:13

Thank fuck. My uni kids need to get a life again. This is bad enough mid 50s, but at 20 must be fucking unbearable.

@RuthW

I don't think everyone is saying they're clinically vulnerable but that they're glad there's a vaccine potentially for those who are and for the wider community to hopefully return to some semblance of normality.
Squiffany · 09/11/2020 16:15

Isn’t it not just a new vaccine, but also a new type of vaccine that has never been used before? I don’t know enough to understand it, can anyone here explain please?

Also, storage at minus80 will be an interesting concept. How will that work in reality?

IcedPurple · 09/11/2020 16:17

Yeah I think this is the first time in my life I'm glad to be middle aged!

Don't know. Maybe. I won't know until I get Covid-19 how I will react to it. But my dad is so having the vaccine would mean I could visit him again properly. You seem a bit sneery asking that?

I had an email from nwnhs last week asking if I was interested in working in an immunisation programme. Any other retired nurses who came back on the nurses register had similar?
