Family isolating protocol

Day 0 Mum gets it
Day 3 Dad gets it
Day 3 DD1 gets it
Day 10 Mum free to leave house
Day 13 Dad free to leave the house
Day 13 DD1 free to leave the house
Day 17 DD2 free to leave the house
Day 20 DD2 gets it
DD2 has to isolate for 10 days (or until better).

Do the rest of the family have to isolate?

I'd say no, but Test and Trace say yes.

Cases all symptomatic and confirmed with positive test. Girls are older teenagers.

The whole household has to isolate if one (or more) members test positive.

How many people are in your household OP, sounds like a lot?

Also, you didn't say when DD1 tested positive.

Whole household has to isolate from the day the first member tested positive unless they get symptoms then they start their own 10 day isolation from that day.

Augustbreeze · 09/11/2020 12:44

Sorry I assumed by "gets it" you mean starts symptoms /tests positive. Do you?

GreenPlum · 09/11/2020 12:46

Yes. 'Gets it' is first day of symptoms. Sorry!

Only four people in household. Mum, dad and two teenage girls.

(It's not my family.)

Sorry I see what you're asking, whether you all have to start isolating again because of DD2's infection.

I can see why T&T say yes. I can see why you say no. Legally you all have to obey T&T?

Bramblespoint · 09/11/2020 12:49

Yes you all have to isolate again sorry. If someone starts with symptoms once your isolation is over as it sound like has happened here you must all isolate for 10/14 days

llm24 · 09/11/2020 12:50

Yep any member of a household who gets COVID the family must isolate

Dontstepinthecowpat · 09/11/2020 12:51

If DD2 has a positive test then all need to isolate, if tested negative then isolation is over for everyone

Bramblespoint · 09/11/2020 12:51

I think this explains it

Sadly I think because the initial isolation period is up then you all have to isolate again.
Having tested positive once isn't a guarantee you can't catch it again at the moment.

Seeline · 09/11/2020 12:58

YEp, becaue it is outside the original 14 day period, everyone has to isolate for 14 days again (apart from DD2 who has 10 days)

girlsyearapart · 09/11/2020 12:59

Though if the family apart from one of the dds has very recently tested positive they will still have the antibodies?
In this specific case I think only the most recently positive dd needs to isolate

GreenPlum · 09/11/2020 12:59

OK, thank you. It seems daft. The family are clearly where she caught it. She hadn't yet mixed with anybody after their isolation period. She must have just had a longer incubation period, or only picked it up towards the end of their illnesses.

If there hadn't been a gap, they would have been free to go after their own 10 days and the fourth family member has to ride it out. But because there was a few days gap, it starts all over again.

A few of our families at school are finding this. One little girl is on her third isolation period with just a couple of days between them. She's now just caught it during the third isolation period.

Yep. But I guess the logic is it’s easier to do it this way than have to come up with a specific length of “grace” period after a period of isolation where you’re “safe” from having to isolate again. Theoretically (but unlikely) DD2 could have caught it on day 17 when she left the house.

... if she caught it in an open field from the invisible man!

Yeah, I guess that's it. It has to be 100% black and white without any wiggle room despite common sense dictating otherwise!
