Who needs to isolate?

So, mother in law went for a meal with a friend on Wednesday.
Friend tested positive today for COVID.
Mother in law had DS as she always does on Friday night and Saturday. She provides childcare whilst I’m studying.

I don’t keep DS off school or do I? I have no idea anymore

Depends when friend got symptoms. If it was after Friday then none of the contacts need to isolate

Mil has to isolate (tho legally only if requested by track & trace by this I mean if she works and her company wants her at work but hasn’t been contacted by t&t then they can force her to go)

Your child doesn’t have to

Frazzled13 · 08/11/2020 18:44

Your DS doesn’t need to unless MIL develops symptoms.
Your MIL needs to if she saw her friend less than 48 hours before friend’s symptoms started

MIL doesn't need to isolate if she wasn't in contact in the 48 hours before symptoms started.

She tested positive today which is Sunday

Well this is the thing, she got the results today but she’d have done the test Friday. It’s awkward because DS gets a persistent cough when the weather gets colder, just clearing his throat every so often but it’s every single day. I’ll see how mil is doing this week, I guess I’m just trying to ensure we don’t spread anything. If I send him to school and mil is negative then good, but if she’s positive then I could end up getting a whole bubble went home

MIL needs to isolate for 14 days from date she saw her friend. She doesn’t need to get a test unless she gets symptoms herself. Your son would only have to isolate if he develops symptoms or your MIL develops symptoms and then tests positive.

This is correct.

Hope MIL & DS don't get it! & the friend makes a good recovery.

Obviously you shouldn't send DS to MIL's until after the 14 days (at the very least).

I’ve cancelled him going for the next month, I’ll study around him and hope for the best!
