I was dreading this weekend, kids activities cancelled etc but it's been a revelation so far. Yesterday we managed to have a lay in with toast in bed, got up finished all homework by 11am, cooked a hot meal for lunch, went for a walk, came home did all the housework and sat and watched a film In the evening with a "party tea" today instead of rushing about we are walking in the woods and then home to do whatever we like, no drama of doing housework or homework, I'm looking forward to ironing and rewatching Cranford this afternoon. I could honestly have every weekend like this.

I was feeling a bit unsure about the weekend as I prefer to be busy as I’ve always dreaded Sundays - however a large parcel arrived from Hobbycraft yesterday, and I can’t wait to get started!

Bluesheep8 · 08/11/2020 07:29

No. I am SICK OF BLOODY FIREWORKS. Every single night. They have ruined my peaceful weekend so far

Standrewsschool · 08/11/2020 07:31

We had a nice family walk yesterday also. Normally we’re ferrying dc to clubs.

FortunesFave · 08/11/2020 07:32

I always wonder what these "activities" people on MN seem to book in for their kids so much actually ARE!

The day OP describes is pretty much how we've always lived...apart from one class per week for each DD (gymnastics and dance) that's all we do!

Toddlerboozerepeat · 08/11/2020 07:33

No way yesterday was endless, 3 toddlers who want to run about at soft play or do indoor activity groups. Screens have been on since 05.30 as that’s when they wake up, atleast before we would be getting ready to go out about 08.00

borageforager · 08/11/2020 07:34

We don’t do weekend activities anyway, but we do usually meet up with other families for dog walks. That’s distant memory really now, but that’s what I miss.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 08/11/2020 07:35

Oh wow 3 toddlers booze, I take my hat off to you! Softplay really is a lifesaver in winter with little ones isn't it!

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 08/11/2020 07:37

We don't do booked activities but at the weekend we would normally head out for one good walk a day plus one other trip out, maybe to swimming, softplay, garden centre, national trust property etc. One of our outings would normally involve a friend of DS' (always try to go to softplay with a friend as then DH and I don't have to go on the equipment with DS!)

Coldwinterahead1 · 08/11/2020 07:38

Crikey 3 toddlers, that's hard work. I totally take my hat off to you.

The only baffling thing about your post is that you were dreading it

And that it takes a global pandemic to force you into doing what you actually want to do.

You do know that you can have a weekend like that whenever you want to?

You can still do whatever activity your kids like every once in a while, you don't have to do it every week.

Coldwinterahead1 · 08/11/2020 07:39

If anything this year has made me realise I like a simple life.

We had a lovely day yesterday took the smalls (4 and 6)for a long hike to see some seals and had a picnic, home bath monopoly and a movie followed by an early night. Today a playground is requested then I will sleep ready for my night shift tonight (A&E) I've been off a week and apparently it's all getting awful again in the hospital

Crakeandoryx · 08/11/2020 07:39

I love it but I extremely lucky. I live on the edge of a town and can do country walks or into town. We have a garden that keeps us busy and we take the kids out for walks, to playgrounds (I'm so pleased that they are open) and on bikes. We have great neighbours who have become friends and we're going out for one on one walks and talks with thermos mugs if tea to set the world to rights. I love the calm I love not having loads of errands to run and having to please everyone else. It's time for us that we never normally get.

I don't want this forever but loving it and last lockdown I loved it until about the 4 month mark.

Ignoringequally · 08/11/2020 07:43

You’ve always had the option to have weekends like that, and you can keep them like that if you want.
Our kids activities haven’t restarted since March so it’s wearing a bit thin now to be honest. I have one in isolation due to a case at school (aged 7), a bored 5 year old and a toddler who desperately needs some exercise.
Oh well, only 11 days isolation to go.

user1487194234 · 08/11/2020 07:43

Glad you enjoyed your weekend ,but there is nothing to stop you having a quiet weekend every weekend. Children's activities are not compulsory.

We enjoy days like this from time to time ,but also busy weekends
,shopping ,eating out, cinema ,seeing family and friends

It's the lack of choice I find the most difficult

pumpkinpie01 · 08/11/2020 07:47

I'm the kind of person that is always planning things I never normally have a weekend where we aren't doing something. Yesterday my dh was at work so it was just me and ds7 with no car. We watched the new spongebob film , went to the park, gathered leaves and twigs for a bonfire today , the day went surprisingly quick. Today we are going to bake a lemon cake , paint some stones to add to the covid snake by a bus stop in town that was started in March and bonfire building. A nice cheap weekend Smile

BakewellGin1 · 08/11/2020 07:55

If football was on for DS it would of been even better, however...
Oldest DS has been for a jog, watched a couple of films, been on his PS4 then had pizza for tea... Today he will watch MOTD, do homework, watch Premier League Football, go for a jog and go on PS4 no doubt.

Youngest DS enjoyed a morning of Toy Story and toys yesterday morning then we went to a woodland park where he played in leaves and got muddy then home for a bath.

We've taken the opportunity to have a Full English breakfast, Roast Dinner, a few drinks in the house, films...

Oh and also done a couple of door step deliveries of baby clothes and to the skip as we are in the process of getting kitchen roof and ceiling done before decorating.

beela · 08/11/2020 08:00

Our dc seem to always have a friend or two round. They love it, their friends are no trouble, and if we have no plans they are welcome here any time. All good. But if I'm being selfish, I have to admit it's nice not to have my house full of other people's kids after school and at the weekends Grin

reefedsail · 08/11/2020 08:00

We should have been out all weekend at DS's sport. Whilst I'm a bit of a homebody and don't mind staying in, I'm really sad for him. He's just made the cut for a regional and a national squad and he was really looking forward to going to the first training sessions. I really hope he doesn't lose them all. Sad

Nailgirl · 08/11/2020 08:01

Yes and No.

I am grateful I have my 3 DC even if they argue and fight and my dogs. Netflix and a nice warm toasty house.

Today I'm up but will go back to bed -oh yes and have another couple of hours then an on line zoom, dog walk and homework and board game.

Can't wait for early bed tonight as well.

Spanielmadness · 08/11/2020 08:07

If you’re ‘looking forward to ironing’ then I’d have a careful think about your life! 🤣

PrettyinPink80 · 08/11/2020 08:07

Us to, yes x

nosswith · 08/11/2020 08:09

It's not rained, it's been mild for the time of year, that has made it easier I think.

Purpler5 · 08/11/2020 08:20

@FortunesFave

In our case their not “booked” per se. They are things like football matches, which, if an away match, take up the whole morning. One son plays on Saturdays the other on sundays. Other friends have other sports clubs or activities with scouts/cadets/St Johns ambulance etc.

EssentialHummus · 08/11/2020 08:26

Yes, we’ve had a lovely weekend so far and I think it’s because the sun was out.

Same here. I have a three year old. Loss of activities and inability to have playdates makes it shit in rainy weather. As it was she hared around a park with her friends and then had a long nap.
