DP positive, we have the same symptoms. I'm negative....

Dp tested positive yesterday after symptoms started weds. My symptoms started thurs, so took a test Friday. Mine was negative.

We both have a slight cough, sore throat, headache, general fatigue, slight temp. He lost his taste and smell last night. I can still taste and smell.

Would it be worth testing again tomorrow/Monday? I'm not convinced I'm a true negative.

Given that he’s positive, couldn’t you just treat it as if you are positive and do the required isolation ( working from home if your job allows that). Why test again, seems a waste of resources.

Anawi · 07/11/2020 15:50

A colleague of my husbands tested negative twice, then positive. He tested repeatedly as his daughter had tested positive and he still had symptoms.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/11/2020 15:56

The reason for testing again would be to contact trace.

We are already isolating obviously.

Also there is no financial help at the moment as not been contacted by track and trace to isolate.

I’d consider myself positive. Tests aren’t 100%. Whether to test again depends on how much you’d want the certainty or need a positive test to access sick pay. Else I’d just consider myself positive and isolate for the 10 days

HyperHippo · 07/11/2020 16:14

I've heard of quite a few people who have tested negative, been re-tested for whatever reason and then are positive. Including one who went to two testing centres where you had to do the swab yourself, then she only was positive when she went to a testing centre with a doctor doing it. I wonder how much doing the swab yourself reduced reliability.

SillyCow6 · 07/11/2020 16:16

Test results arent negative, they are undetected. You can have it and results show as undetected.

DottyWott · 07/11/2020 16:20

I tested negative then positive three days later. I think I tested too early, had very subtle symptoms (but DS had obvious symptoms so I had myself tested too).

You will have to isolate as your partners household contact anyway and nhs test and trace will contact you and instruct you.

If you use the Covid Zoe app and report your symptoms and negative test they will probably invite you retest, that’s what happened with me.
Get well soon!

DottyWott · 07/11/2020 16:21

The advantage of testing positive yourself is that your isolation period will be shorter

Smelliethenelephant · 07/11/2020 18:01

I also tested negative with symptoms then 3 days later tested positive, worth retesting in my view.

Aquamarine1029 · 07/11/2020 18:06

I got symptoms after my daughter tested positive, I got tested and it was undetected. 4 days later a new test said positive. I had all of the symptoms my daughter had except she lost her sense of smell and taste but I didn't. You are probably positive as well.

sirfredfredgeorge · 07/11/2020 18:45

It doesn't make a blind of difference to you if you test positive or not, in fact if you did a positive test now all that would happen is you'd have to isolate for longer. Don't waste any more tests

sirfredfredgeorge · 07/11/2020 18:48

The reason for testing again would be to contact trace

You've been isolating 4 days already, you were very unlikely to be infectious on Tuesday with a false negative test on Friday - false negatives are common in the early stages when you are not infectious. So there will be no-one to track trace other than your DP (and any other members of your household already traced via your DP)

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/11/2020 18:50

It does @sirfredfredgeorge. I have been to the hairdresser twice (me, then children). I had a massage as it was my birthday Wednesday. I also had a government worker visit me in my home Wednesday who will be visiting lots of other homes. I also work.

I also can't get the £500 for isolating. Track and trace have not contacted me. So without that, or my own positive test, I can't get any help.

DP doesn't live with me. He is my support bubble. So I need some financial help to do this.

@sirfredfredgeorge. See above. DP didn't start symptoms until weds night. I have had quite a few contacts.

Smelliethenelephant · 07/11/2020 18:57

Also if you feel unwell and need time off work beyond the isolation period it will be helpful if you have your.own test result.

BeakyWinder · 07/11/2020 18:58

If he's in your support bubble you should be entitled to the same support as if you were in the same household surely?

MadeForThis · 07/11/2020 19:01

The test only detects the virus once it's at a certain level. If you have tested too early it will be negative. Wait a couple of days and test again.

Racoonworld · 07/11/2020 19:02

You have to isolate anyway so you can’t go to work on Monday. The £500 is only if you’re on a low income, would you qualify?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/11/2020 19:05

@Racoonworld I am isolating. Not going to work. I didn't say I was. Also I work shifts, so monday would be irrelevant. My point was I had had contacts in work.

@BeakyWinder they need to contact me in order to get a code. DP has a code. I do not. I can't claim it without.

OP posts:
Inkpaperstars · 07/11/2020 19:51

I would get retested yes.

PrivateD00r · 07/11/2020 20:13

OP you don't say when you actually had contact with DP? If you weren't contact traced, then that indicates you weren't actually with him in the 48 hours priors to his symptoms developing?

There are many other viruses around too.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/11/2020 21:12

Yes I was, and am. He is staying here for the isolation. We are in contact every day.

BeakyWinder · 08/11/2020 09:57

That's shocking (well not really T&T is crap). When did dp speak to Track and Trace and did he definitely name you?

BeakyWinder · 08/11/2020 10:00

Out of interest, what evidence does the £500 payment need?

ButterflyBitch · 08/11/2020 10:02

Sounds exactly like me and my husband, exactly the same symptoms. Sore throat, headaches, aches and pains, cough, fatigue. He was positive and I was negative. He lost his sense of taste and I didn’t. I tested positive a couple of days later.
