Can anyone talk me down, have been awake all night panicking.

My brother is 45, overweight, non smoker or drinker but day 7 of Corona has taken a turn for the worse.

Cough, breathing difficulties and according to blood tests low platelets and saturates(?). Hes been admitted to the covid ward last night.

I've read that a third of patients who are taken to hospital die and I am terrified.

Looking for any advice or support at all,I'm a mess.

His age and the fact that he is a non smoker go massively in his favour.
I hope he starts to recover soon.

@Torvean32 I thought smoking didn’t affect covid outcomes? Initially it was thought to be a negative factor but haven’t heard that for a while

He's in the best place to receive treatment and has a much better chance of survival than being at home. Try not to worry too much, OP, we always think of the deaths but there are many more who survive the virus.

From reading about this, I thought that the threshold for hospital admission was quite high, as in you had to be in a dire state before they would even consider admitting someone

5 weeks ago I was in hospital with Covid. I was only in for the best part of 3 days in the end, as better for me to be at home as I couldn't sleep at all there. I had breathing issues (though didn't need oxygen), fast heart rate and very high blood pressure. I am 5 weeks on now. Although not fully fit as yet and still off work, I am feeling lots better, my breathing is so much improved and medication is reducing my blood pressure. I may even be able to return to work next week.

This time round people are taken to hospital much earlier than they were in March.

I should add that I am 47y, a woman and I am classed as being clinically vulnerable.

I did go to hospital - was when I first tested positive but around 5 days after symptoms started.

I will be fine going forward. My lungs are clear, and although I will need blood pressure medication ongoing (perhaps for life) I am recovering well.

It is scary. My friend's dad is in his early 60s, admitted on day 10 after several days of fever. He has high blood pressure, high blood sugar, is an alcoholic with a heart blockage. It was touch and go but he is out now and fine. So it isnt necessarily as bad as you think. Hope your brother gets well soon.

Hi Op.

Sorry to hear that your brother is suffering in this way.

On a more postive note,
my friend and her son had Covid 19 and have recovered from this, quite often see them, he is back at work,as a one of the manager's at our town centre's home bargains store.

Take care
