What do people think of this? I'm not sure. It says it is voluntary which I understand- but if they just do some people will it work? Partly I suppose. I kind of feel for people living there right now, seems like a bit of an experiment.

I would go for a test if they have station nearby. I won't take a bus to get tested. Dh works for the university and he has been asked how many people his lab has. I have heard nothing from dc primary school.

I'd read they're scrapping it as the test is useless? Is it carrying on?

Cassimin · 06/11/2020 17:13

Hopefully they’ll be checking schools and universities, they may pick up a lot of cases there and stop the spread.
Looking at local news it seems like a lot of people have turned up at the testing stations.

Tyzz · 06/11/2020 17:15

It seems like a good way to find patterns of infection.
It's aimed at asymptomatic people so even if it's not as effective it will still pick up people who would otherwise be going around spreading it unknowingly.

It's an experiment but it's designed to help with the more local test, track and trace system and give a clearer picture.

Case wise things aren't too bad in the city, it's the hospitals that are the problem as capacity is running low. I think the poor air quality in the city is a huge factor (bearing in mind it's a really bad respiratory virus).

The concern is because mass testing will mean more cases it's distorts the case numbers in relation to other cities, but the key is hospitals. The quicker you can track cases the more you can halt the spread.

Maybe part of the hospital problem is that our main hospital was due to be pulled down about 2 years ago.
There is a new hospital next door to it which is unfinished due to the firm going bust.
The old hospital was being run down in readiness for the new one, unfortunately looks like that won’t be happening for a while now though.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 17:28

Guardian Article has several scientists saying it could do more harm than good.

It's so hard to know who to believe isn't it.

Orangeblossom7777 · 06/11/2020 17:33

It would be the more compliant people attending the others won't bother and keep spreading it surely?

The Carillion cowboys have a lot to answer for.

The royal isn't fit for purpose. It was due to be bulldozed years ago and now has to see the city through a pandemic.
