I'm depressed by the fact that it seems to have become acceptable to call people murderers if they express regret about the restrictions, or to spout out "stay the fuck at home" left, right and centre.

I remember Biden making a speech in the summer saying that society is starting to forget the value of decency, politeness and respect for others. I couldn't agree more!

Isn't the first step to even starting to heal the divisions in society being polite and respectful to others, even when they hold a different point of view? Even if one personally finds that point of view offensive?

Covid is not an excuse to talk horribly to other people!

I wear a mask as I am able to, the same as Sd. I have never mentioned anything to others who are not wearing a mask.

I will get annoyed if you invade my space in the supermarket. So i will use my trolley to enforce the space.

I really wish the ppl who wear masks under their noses will get a grip and stop it.

You're not wrong, but courtesy goes both ways. I've yet to see anyone called a murderer simply for expressing regret about the restrictions - those accusations get thrown about in response to behaviour that's (rightly or wrongly) perceived as selfish. Or to use another word, uncourteous...

Totally agree OP. That awful “ stay the fuck home” was shitty on so many levels. Grammatically incorrect, rude and patronising. Makes me just want to retort “ fuck the fuck off”

Courtesy is in short supply. I just had a supermarket delivery and the driver had to block the road. A car wanted to come up the road and started giving the driver abuse because he had to wait literally 3 minutes. Then somebody jumped out of the car and started to take photos of the front of the delivery van and the driver. I'm really unclear why everyone has such a short fuse.

Covid is just another of a long line of situations that has meant people don't converse anymore.

Was discussing this with the Mr recently, ironically we were saying the rise of Twitter, mainly, and other social media messaging boards, I know I know, emboldens people to have direct access to people they wouldn't have access to, they can find others of "their tribe" to encourage that their viewpoint is the "right one" and everyone thinks their opinion on every subject should hold as much weight as everyone else's even if the other is an expert in their field.

People used to have to debate and discuss face-to-face, it feels like that was more conducive to arriving at solutions.

Or maybe that's just us.

It's not Covid.

HugeAckmansWife · 06/11/2020 16:39

to be fair, 3 minutes is actually quite a long time to block a through road - if I was on a school run and then trying to get to work that would piss me right off, because 3 mins there would mean an additional 5-10 as traffic builds up further on and then suddenly I'm late - however, you don't have to be a dick about it. That's my general approach to most things - just don't be a dick.

yellowmaoampinball · 06/11/2020 16:43

It happens on both sides of the argument. I'm sick of seeing people who don't agree with the lockdown/restrictions accusing those that do of being stupid/apathetic/ sheep or any number of other things.

Everyone needs to just chill out and not get so bent out of shape when other people have a different point of view to them.

movingonup20 · 06/11/2020 16:50

I think it goes both ways, if I'm expected to have my life curtailed, not see my (young adult) kids etc then surely I can expect others to follow the rules and perhaps not bend the law eg the parents at the playground earlier chatting in groups (I can't go to the outdoor gym in the same park, it's closed) I didn't say anything but I wanted to. So when someone here yet again moans that after school dance class/football/painting is suspended I have a short fuse, I can't even see my friends.
