Playgrounds?

Will you still be visiting playgrounds?

Legally they aren't closing.

They got insanely busy here when they reopened in the summer...

@MrsJonesAndMe

Were they not then *@FuckedyFuck*? or were they merely walking past and telling you off? Confused
No it’s like a field/park near to a school and said child was walking through. She actually used the words ‘we are in national lockdown and you are breaking the law’ this kid was about 10. Not only is coronavirus turning some adults batshit but clearly these adults have children too
KitKatastrophe · 06/11/2020 22:14

Yes absolutely!

Bananasandorangesss · 06/11/2020 22:57

Yep why wouldn’t you

nanbread · 06/11/2020 22:59

Yep why wouldn’t you

Because they can get mentally busy and parents hang around together chatting while kids play... I don't have a problem with it myself, just want to check it's within the spirit and letter of the law really

@nanbread They are open so it’s within the law. You just need to use common sense - if you’re not comfortable with the busyness of the playground at that time then go at a quieter time; my kids are at school mixing with many others so I am relaxed. It’s good for them to play with other kids and they aren’t ever going to social distance at 4 years old but if you’re worried about that then best to avoid it.

Powerof4 · 07/11/2020 07:36

Definitely will be going.

CrazyOldBagLady · 07/11/2020 07:42

Yes we will be going mid week when they are quieter

toptreeroots1 · 07/11/2020 08:19

Yes definitely

Applebloss0m · 07/11/2020 08:21

Yes. What else are you going to do with pre-school children. Outside = low risk in my opinion

transformandriseup · 07/11/2020 16:23

Yes but only if it's fairly quiet. I did take DD to one today, and (toddler) DD played with another child who was with their parent.

MeadowHay · 07/11/2020 18:55

Christ yes. We will only be going in the mornings now that its started to get dark early and our local parks are virtually empty in the mornings anyway. I took DD to one yesterday and for the first hour or so we were the only people there. When we left two other kids were there too.

ShyTown · 07/11/2020 19:00

We’re still going to the playground. It was busy-ish today but no more so than is typical for a Saturday. Surrounding park was heaving. There’s been a break in to the outdoor gym equipment area near us. It’s in a very prominent location that’s well visible from the passing A road so I’m assuming the council etc know the barriers have been broken and aren’t overly bothered.

SomewhereEast · 07/11/2020 20:49

Yes! If anything playgrounds round here seem busier, possibly because there's nothing else to do

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 07/11/2020 20:55

Yes we are

TheKeatingFive · 07/11/2020 20:58

Of course. There is literally nothing else to do. I want some semblance of normal life for my children (steeling myself for the accusations of selfishness). Outdoor seems very low risk.

HazeyJaneII · 07/11/2020 21:01

No because ds is shielding and the one near us gets very busy.

sotallsotall · 07/11/2020 21:54

God yes.

Doodlepip23 · 08/11/2020 05:10

Yes, will be taking my DD to playgrounds, but only at quiet times.

It is a shame to see outdoor gyms and basketball courts etc close again. I work for a council and we were really surprised by this. Most users of these areas are well social distanced anyway and we’ve felt mean cordoning them all off this week.

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 08/11/2020 05:19

Yes absolutely. Our 2 nearest ones don't really get busy though.

ginberry4 · 08/11/2020 07:43

No, ours is a quiet village playground next to the school, only time it’s remotely busy is half an hour after school - & it’s been locked up so no-one can use it. I thought playgrounds were allowed to remain open this time?

MRex · 08/11/2020 12:21

They are allowed to remain open, it's a decision taken by individual councils, so you can complain to yours if they closed the playground or outdoor gym equipment.

IncidentsandAccidents · 08/11/2020 15:38

I'm so glad that outdoor exercise is being actively encouraged this time. Playgrounds are an important part of that for young children. We've had two walks this weekend with a visit to the playground tagged on each time. I agree with others that outdoor youth sports should be allowed too.

Christmaspud20 · 08/11/2020 15:41

Yes and have done. Yes they've been really busy. But nothing else for them to do and breaks up the day

nanbread · 08/11/2020 22:45

Walked past another local playground today and it was insanely busy, I'd say 10x more people than you'd usually find on a dull Sunday.

I just hope they don't get closed by the council if they consider them a risk.

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 09/11/2020 11:05

Ours are open. Think the risk is fairly low. Although I was surprised at how many parents were clustered together, face to face chatting without masks.

I'm not impressed the far easier to socially distance gym equipment is taped off. I've sent a good natured complaint to the council about that this morning.
