Masks all day at secondary

Just had an email from DS secondary school requesting all staff and students to wear masks while inside, all day. They have been wearing them moving between classes up until now.

Just wondering if other schools have requested this, or if our school is blazing it's own trail, so to speak!

I think it's a huge ask in a low case rate area. It's not about being spoiled..they are 12 years old , we're not talking about adults who are being paid at work

Not a big ask - mine wear at school all day except when eating/drinking. I’m actually surprised they haven’t complained.

But we have just come out of a second long lockdown (not in UK) and it is mandatory for everyone over 12 to wear a mask outside the house here. We are used to it now. And the requirement on everyone means everyone acknowledges they can make a difference by doing something to help reduce transmission. Enclosed spaces, like classrooms, are higher risk.

Teachers can take off masks at the front if the class if they like (to help with communication).

We have all made sacrifices over the last few months to get our Covid numbers so low - the secondary school kids here seem to feel they can contribute to this too.

I think as they have had so much time remote learning this year, they are happy to put up with masks. Also, as my DC says she wants to help other students who may be more vulnerable than her.

When we see our Covid numbers dropping it makes mask and wearing even easier - whatever works, it’s a small ask for a larger community gain Smile
