Partner working in office from tomorrow

I’m annoyed.
My DP works in IT, in an office where everyone, including him, can WFH - it’s completely possible and he will occasionally log in from home at the weekend or first thing if he needs to trouble-shoot.
He has been back in the office since May and has been told they are continuing as usual from tomorrow.

Mainly I’m annoyed for myself, as I feel I’m going to go mad with no fitness classes to attend, no walking groups to go to etc. Just me and the dog alone all day until he gets home at 6.30ish.

I’m almost completely off my anti depressants and feel like this could set me back significantly as I’m a very social person.

Anyone else in the same boat?

So you're 'annoyed' because your husband's employers won't allow him to keep you company at home during working hours?

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 04/11/2020 21:27

Do you not work OP?

Ginogineli · 04/11/2020 21:29

Most people who wfh last time we likely staying in work this time

Last time workplaces couldn’t adapt quick enough (measures wise) but now policies are in place wfh will be much more rare

I can wfh but not allowed

bluebeck · 04/11/2020 21:29

Where do you live OP?

I thought from tomorrow everyone had to WFH if they could? Maybe that is just England, I can't keep up!

slipperywhensparticus · 04/11/2020 21:30

Walk the dog? It's still allowed maybe find something that interests you?

Advisory only I think (!)

"WFH if you can" is at the discretion of the employer I suppose. Often a job 'can' be done from home, but the quality of the work might be much less.
Ginogineli · 04/11/2020 21:42

It’s work from home if you can

Most employers will say no so what do you do 🤷‍♀️

BackforGood · 04/11/2020 21:43

I was with you n the first part of your post, as I naturally assumed that you were concerned about his health, or his unnecessary exposure to people both in the office and when commuting.

You lost me at the bit where you think his role is to keep you company, when he is being paid to work though. Even if he were working from home, I'd assume he would be shut in a space where he wasn't being distracted by you. Maybe this is why he has to work in the office?

Find a fitness class on YouTube.

BlueThistles · 04/11/2020 21:51

Sorry Im totally confused 😏

crazycatgal · 04/11/2020 21:57

DP and his office have been told by their boss that he wants them to work in the office even though their jobs can be done from home. The funny part is the boss himself said he is going to work from home. Double standards.

user1487194234 · 04/11/2020 22:12

The Government doesn't seem to want to say you must WFH
A lot of companies seem to want /need their staff back in
And if that's what the employers want then broadly speaking that is what will happen

Gazelda · 04/11/2020 22:36

I go into the office once a week, wfh the remainder. DH works from home 5 days. On the days we're both at home, we don't spend any more time together than the day I'm at the office. We're both too busy working.

We are both grateful for being able to wfh and I love going into the office for one day - it's helping me to feel connected with colleagues and the organisation.

My workplace have very strict covid measures in place, and I travel in my car. I feel very, very safe.
I'd be pissed at my DH if he said he'd prefer I didn't go in.

Can you really not cope till 6:30 without him? Hmm
