Has anyone been asked to shield when they don't feel they need to?

I have received an email tonight advising me to shield until 2 December. I don't think I need to

I work in a secondary school, but do try my best to maintain distance at all times, wear a mask/visor which is easier than in primary. I love my job.

I finished cancer treatment over a year ago, have no other health issues, had an op back in July that I've fully recovered from and am pretty fit and healthy. I am a little overweight (I was in the obese category but my BMI is now 27 so although I still have more weight to lose to be in the healthy weight category, I'm getting there). I really don't know why I've been asked to shield. I know it's only advisory and I can do what I want but I'm genuinely interested in what others would do in this situation.

Hopeful bump!

Hi
I have a friend who is otherwise healthy, but previously had a transplant

She got the second letter yesterday but has ignored both of them anyway.

I wonder if there’s some kind of error, I thought only cancer patients undergoing treatment at the moment were asked to shield.

@AcornAutumn that's what I thought too. I'm obviously on some list that says I'm 'extremely vulnerable' when in fact I'm not. I will be ignoring this one too. I am sensible as are the rest of my family, but I just don't think shielding is necessary for me at all.

yes, I think the NHS have about 14 different systems which doesn't help. I have to use the NHS a lot and it seems only box has to be ticked or unticked, in the different systems, and it all goes haywire.

my friend checked as well because she lives a normal life and plays a lot of sport, but apparently any major organ transplant = shielding list. So she got the free food box - doesn't eat carbs! - and mostly shared them out with neighbours!

I have and was before. It's all done used nhs data on your conditions etc rather than individual drs opinions . I've been told to both in march and got that email last night. But in march my two hospital departments emailed with their own risk stratification and asked patients to see where they fit in. So then I didn't need to shield. I still got all the info and have got this email now.

So if you don't think you need to that's also fine or you could check with your doctor's. If you're happy to leave it and not shield, then it's advice not law so do what you feel is best.

Yes, I have been told I'm extremely clinically vulnerable and I'm not. Take immunosuppressants but my dose is definitely too low to fall into the high dose camp that is at risk.
Assume their databases aren't good enough to identify this - just ignore!
