Just checked the government website and looks like it’s being reintroduced. I’m gutted.

@Tyzz

Are asthmatics on the shielding list again? My DP is asthmatic.
www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/homes
those with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

How sever is your DH asthma? Only people taking specific steroids for it were classed as CEV last time. I have asthma and am CV but not CEV.

I hope the families who lose a loved one who had diabetes get together a legal case.

The government has no excuse this time round. No pretence of ignorance.

The data - from around the world, as well as UK evidence - is very clear.

1 in 4 of all the deaths have been in people with diabetes.

Most of the other conditions with the very highest risk of death have also been excluded, i.e. hypertension.

I'd happily support such a legal case in any way I can.

Surely shielding is a personal choice though? No one can make you shield. You can just be sensible with the ‘normal ‘ rules can’t you?

My adult DS has just received an email whereas last time he got a letter. He’s clinging on to the fact that you are allowed to meet up with one other person for a walk/exercise as he went stir crazy last time. My other DCs who had to shield last time for other reasons haven’t been included as young people apparently don’t become as unwell with Covid! I don’t believe this for an instance. Maybe very young children thankfully but I’m talking 14 and 17 year olds.....virtually adult!

DH got an email this evening. He"s not going to shield this time. No way can he stay 2 metres away from us in our home. He'll carry on going to work and hope for the best.

I haven't read guidance because I didn't choose to follow advice last time and won't this. I have had an email telling me to work from home and use the email as evidence if employer not happy.

I am in a low risk area and don't go out much. I'm careful. I used the priority supermarket delivery slots last time, so I could reduce the number of times I have to go into a shop. I didn't need the other stuff.

I suspect help with shopping etc will be down to councils, as it seems that there is less money being invested in supporting vulnerable people who really need the help.

Yes it's not compulsory - but only people with shielding status can shield, i.e. be a priority for WFH if a workplace can only accommodate so many requests or claim sickness benefit if wfh not possible.

The government is throwing people with diabetes to the wolves. Cardiovascular and hypertensive patients too.

Last time my DH could work from home to help protect our shielded DCs. This was recommended by NHS but I’m not sure this will be encouraged this time round when the shielding is so much more “relaxed” and dismissive of various health issues.

Barryisland it is guidance not law. I can't reconcile shielding with being a mother of a primary age dc going into school.

Shielding is guidance not a rule, or a law.
If you don't want to you don't have to.

Adult Ds's SN college sent a general letter out late afternoon saying the extremely clinical vulnerable should not go in and that they would contact the families individually.
We still havent heard from them (its midnight)...guess Im ringiig them tomorrow

It is very definitely only advice. The point of lockdown is that everyone needs to limit interactions with others. Shielders need to be more conscientious about that - in varying degrees. Some people will need to strictly socially and physically distance, but not everyone needs to do that to limit their risk to an acceptable level.

It's almost as if they want to kill off the elderly and disabled...

Unless things have changed since I read the list (about 4 hours ago), diabetes isn't included on the shielding list.

The list of highest risk conditions, yes it's on there. It couldn't not be - given that 1 in 4 of the deaths (worldwide) have been in people with diabetes.

I don't believe they've included another extremely clinically vulnerable (as in highest risk of death) on there either.
Age.

No it doesn’t, they are still listed under clinically vulnerable not extremely vulnerable so do not shield.

Shielding Dh here. No idea if he's had an email this time.

I've been sleeping on a blow up bed in the living room since March. We'd relaxed the distancing at home when shielding paused but were constantly unsure as I occasionally have to go to pharmacy. I can't even remember what it's like to sleep in my own bed or my own bedroom. Haven't kissed or cuddled Dh since March. I have to try not to think about it. ☹️
