What sort of a rash have you seen in connection with covid?

My daughter - 17- has been coughing for a while. I didn't think much of it but we're now waiting on test results. Yesterday she showed me a circular rash under her armpits- about 50p coin size. Says it's quite .
itchy.

What sort of places are rashes thought to be found for covid patients?

There are so many different rashes they believe to be connected to coronavirus. Have a look at covid.joinzoe.com/post/skin-rash-covid

Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 15:53

Thanks, yes there are alot. My daughter's is one distinct circular patch so I'm wondering if it's something completely different. Just a red herring so to speak.

We're waiting for the test result, but fairly certain it's covid.

DW had a rash all over her back that looked like nettle rash, she was itchy all over, and now (this one is possibly unrelated) she has a new dark rash under her arms that looks almost like it's dirty. It's not btw Grin

zighead · 04/11/2020 16:00

Hope the results come through quickly.

Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 16:01

Thanks for that. Does the rash under her arms itch please?

Also what does DW mean? I only use mumsnet once every year or so :)

No under her arms isn't itchy, though she's taking antihistamines now so that could be helping.

DW is dear wife 🙂

Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 16:14

thanks for that. I'll get the hang of all the lingo one day !

Excuse the photo if my fat leg but this was my rash. I'm something of a rash expert as I have various illnesses that cause hives and I took the photo to show my consultant as it was very different to normal. The cough started a couple of days later.

@ English Girl Approximately, cheers for that. That's the kind of rash I keep seeing, not such a distinct round circular area. Starting to wonder if my daughter's rash is something else. Might get in touch with my GP, it's just that they don't want to see anyone unless it's an emergency. Thank you

No problem at all. Is it like a target with a round circle but normal centre or completely round? My urticaria hives are normally round.

sequinednostrils · 04/11/2020 16:28

Roundworm is a circular itchy rash. Just to count it out. Do you have a cat or dog?

Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 16:48

It's a circle roughly and it's quite dry. There's some flakiness to it in the middle. Going to see if I can upload a picture.

@ Sequinenostrils- yes I did see that about roundworm. I don't know how serious it is for roundworm to go untreated for an extra few days

This the rash that I'm interested in- whether covid or something else.

@Liz1tummypain looks like ringworm which a pharmacist can give cream over the counter for. Can you forward the photo to someone who can pick the cream up for you while awaiting the test result?

SpookyNoise · 04/11/2020 17:05

I’ve had itchy hives all over my hands and forearms.

Brown76 · 04/11/2020 17:06

Ringworm

Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 17:24

@ sliding drawers , yes that's what I'm starting to think. Have been thru my drugs box and found some mebendazole but it's from 2014- the kids kept getting them so I used to buy it now and then. ( 17 year old is the youngest now). Have just spoken to lady at the GPs so I can wait til tomorrow for a phone convo with a doctor or just give daughter some (pretty old) medicine from my box of treats !

OP posts:
Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 17:25

Yes it does look that way. Do you know if it's bad to wait a long time before treating it please?

slidingdrawers · 04/11/2020 17:59

I don't think a delay of a few days will matter however skin conditions aren't my area of expertise. No sharing of towels though as it's quite contagious.

Liz1tummypain · 04/11/2020 18:18

@ sliding drawers thank you for your help with this. My daughter's test result has just come back negative so if all our results come back negative before tomorrow I may be able to get a doctor to see it and it I'll definitely talk to someone over the phone about it. Yes to her own towels, agreed. Many thanks :)
