Why is the Scottish coronavirus briefing talking about how to use fireworks

To think this Scottish briefing has gone too far when she's using the coronavirus briefing to give the public a lecture about how to use fireworks! It's getting ridiculous!

To be fair, someone needs to remind the arseholes out there how the fire services could do without this shit in a pandemic. Do we really need needless injuries and accidents in hospitals right now?

I don’t see the harm in using that platform to spread the word and remind people how to be safer.

helpfulperson · 04/11/2020 14:25

Because public displays are cancelled due to covid so people are more likely to DIY.

LastTrainEast · 04/11/2020 14:26

Maybe so, but someone has to. 100s of people end up in hospital each year because they don't know how.

lovelemoncurd · 04/11/2020 14:28

We have got by without these ridiculous lectures every week though surely! State control gone mad!

There are always public information campaigns about fireworks.

And this year it's kind of important to avoid hospital admissions and full A&E departments.

Bumble84 · 04/11/2020 14:34

No point having a lecture on fireworks in May though is there!

lovelemoncurd · 04/11/2020 14:38

Let's see if Boris and co do a firework lecture. I doubt it. Probably happy for individuals to blow themselves up!

OP posts:
Bumble84 · 04/11/2020 14:40

Well that’s a contradiction op. You think without the lecture England will blow themselves up. So presumably you think Scotland’s done a great job at public service by having this on today.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 04/11/2020 14:46

Well it isn't state control gone mad. It's not control at all otherwise she'd have banned fireworks completely. I think some people probably need advice as there are a lot of idiots out there, let's be honest, who would and do cause havoc with fireworks. Although the people who need the advice probably are the type of people who won't listen to advice and do whatever they please!

CaptainMerica · 04/11/2020 14:49

Lots of people who would normally go to a fireworks display will be doing it at home, possibly for the first time. Seems relevant.

Horehound · 04/11/2020 14:50

You seem frantic.

Are you ok?

I think it's quite sensible to give guidance on use of fireworks. You don't want to divert precious resource in a pandemic to dealing with morons being burnt by fireworks.
Of all the things to get worked up about, why is something that's been spoken about briefly, getting to you so much?

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/11/2020 15:40

A lot of people may decide to do home fireworks. But organised displays have been a thing for so long that it may be the first time any of these people have done a home display - they may not even have watched their parents doing a home display.

Torvean32 · 04/11/2020 15:54

Some one was setting off fireworks at 0230 this morning. I'd happily have throttled them.

BoingBoingyBoing · 05/11/2020 14:31

Seems pretty reasonable.

No public displays.

People gotta have their pointless explosions, so you can expect more backyard fireworks this year.

Sooner the sale of the fucking things to the public is banned, the better.
