Will we be allowed to travel from Enland to Wales to exercise next week?

I live in England. My mum lives 20 minutes over the boarder in Wales. Does anyone know if I'll be allowed to meet her for a walk next week? She doesn't drive so I'd need to travel to her. Many thanks.

Just do it OP @Lavenderteal271

I'm so glad I went to see my DG in lockdown as she died.

If I'd listened to the rules I would never have got to say goodbye

alwayslookingforuser · 04/11/2020 14:40
@BarbaraofSeville those are the Rules for people living in England.

After we come out of this firebreak on the 9th People from England cannot come to Wales except for an essential reason.

Exercise is not one of those reasons. The Op stipulated exercise at the start of this thread. People manipulating the rules/guidelines to suit themselves is not ok and part of the reason the R rate went back up.

Protect yourselves and stay home.
Have the essential reasons been published yet ? I haven't yet seen them

@Lavenderteal271

Nightmare isn't it!

She was in a tier 3 area before the firebreak before that my work commitments stopped me. We met in the summer, I think the last time must have been end of August.

I'm wondering if her area will go back into tier 3 next week or if that's now scrapped in Wales?

She's in a support bubble with my sister as she provides them with childcare.

If it's against the rules then I won't do it, doesn't mean I can't have a grumble about it though 😁

There was no tiering in Wales, just local lockdowns? Unless I've missed it completely
Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 14:43

@Ritasueandbobtoo9

You would get fined if the police stop you. They have been stopping people locally to me.
Can she travel to England?
lifestooshort123 · 04/11/2020 14:49

Unless I've missed something, you saw your mum in August and then work commitments stopped you seeing her again? It's only 4 weeks, please don't go and see her as you're situation is not special - I'm in my late 60s and won't be seeing my son and his family until the restrictions are over. I expect you regret not putting work on a back burner over the last couple of months? Have a rant, I know I want to, but it won't change anything 🙁

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 14:51

Definitely go and see her. The worst thing that will happen is that you get turned back.

Chloemol · 04/11/2020 15:10

No

WorriedMummy2020 · 04/11/2020 15:14

What DumpedByText said. I'm in Wales and I've not been able to see my much older Dad during this firebreak nor in the local lockdowns that preceded it. I miss him too. He is widowed and lives alone.
I've also not seen my family in England since the summer and won't see them for who knows how long as we will come out of firebreak as England goes into their 4 week lockdown.
If you can visit your mum then I can visit my family in England surely? Actually no, neither of us can. People pissing about with the rules and flexing to suit their circumstances is perpetuating all of this.

Lavenderteal271 · 04/11/2020 16:26

DumpedByText I'm not bending any rules, I haven't bend any rules from the start. I'm asking what the rules are and I've replied to say that I won't break them.

alwayslookingforuser I thought it was tier 3 but it may have been referred to as a local lockdown in Wales. Whatever the technical term was, I couldn't see her.

lifestooshort123 if lockdown ends after this initial 4 week period then it will be 3 months since I last saw her and we all know it will be extended. I'm a nurse so I couldn't exactly 'put my work on the back burner'. Even if I wasn't, thats a shitty thing to say to anyone in this current climate, I don't know anyone, in any profession who could afford to do that right now. I also don't think my situation is 'special'. I stated that I recognise that people are in worse positions than me. Believe me I know, I see it everyday but that doesn't mean I can't miss my mum even if it is, by your reconning 'only 4 weeks'.

WorriedMummy2020 again, I'm not 'pissing about', with the rules. I'm asking what they are. Don't direct your frustration at people 'flexing then to suit their circumstances' at me when I'm not doing that.

No, only essential travel to England is allowed eg, work, school and hospital.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/11/2020 16:48

Lavenderteal271

I know it is hard but I also know that cases are rising in the hospitals over the border in England and as perhaps you know local health services are not great in Wales so I wouldn’t risk it really.

movingonup20 · 04/11/2020 17:05

To be honest nobody is stopping travel at the border, wasn't before as during the firebreak. We live on the border and people cross daily for work without question. I would visit but stick to the 2m public place rule

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/11/2020 17:59

movingonup20

Are you north, mid or South Wales border?

ChristmasCantComeSoonEnough · 04/11/2020 18:07

Police are apparently using number plate recognition to check who is travelling on welsh roads.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/11/2020 18:25

Yes, I was clocked going over the border on a back road. Essential travel though.

ExplodingCarrots · 04/11/2020 20:20

@ChristmasCantComeSoonEnough

We’re not actually in lockdown *@ExplodingCarrots* so I’m guessing people are doing the things they won’t be able to do tomorrow.
Here in Wales we are in lockdown.
Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/11/2020 21:00

Wales is in lockdown which will be lifted although with restrictions on the 9th Nov.

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 21:01

Dh has driven across the border to Cardiff and back with no issues.
