What is the chance I'm infected with coronovivous

I visited an elderly relative (in my bubble)
And they said they were a bit off their food (still able to eat) and felt tired she took her temperature and it was normal.
I went hope about an 1hour later

That evening I got a phone called to tell me she felt really unwell and was being sick.

2 days later she had the test done and 2 days after that the result was positive.

Luckily I didn't go out after I saw her and I'm now isolating, I had my test done the day after her positive and mine was negative.

What is the likely hood I could have caught the virus?
I'm always checking my temperature

Im isolating for the 14 days needed
Im currently on day 6....

Please no hate.

The longer you're together, and the poorer the ventilation, the more the chances increase.

But even living in a household, so far more contact than your hour, there's still a 50% chance of not being infected. So less than that, but isolating remains the sensible action.

mindutopia · 04/11/2020 10:53

I think if it has been 6 days, you are feeling well, and you have had a negative test, that's a good sign. It sounds like you are doing all the right things.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/11/2020 10:55

Why would you get any hate? Confused

It's not clear how you met your relative, indoors or outdoors? Was she wearing a mask? Were you just chatting quietly or belting out your favourite power ballads?

SuperPixie247 · 04/11/2020 11:10

Are you asking because you want to sack off self-isolating?

Chocolate2020 · 04/11/2020 11:40

I don't know I just thought I might get hate.
Neither of us were wearing masks, we had lunch together at the table 😬, she managed to eat most of her food

No of course not, I just don't want to be sick. Just wanted to know the odds of actually being infected.

Indoors?

I'm going to assume that's a yes. I think the risk is fairly high. The reason you still have to isolate, despite your negative results, it because it could be a false negative - this isn't unlikely given you were only five days from the possible exposure at the time of your test.

I’ve no idea, but you’ve tested negative so that must be a good sign. I hope your relative feels better soon.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/11/2020 11:47

Sorry, x post.

I work in a primary school so we wear masks at all times except for in our own classroom with our ‘bubble’.
Last week was half term and I got a phone call on the Wednesday to say one of my colleagues in my bubble has tested positive after developing symptoms on the Saturday night and another call yesterday to say the parents of two children in our bubble have also tested positive (all the children have either tested negative (2) or have no symptoms (6) but all adults -colleague and her dh and the four parents have tested positive.)
Our whole class are isolating until Friday as this will be two weeks after our last contact.

I started with an awful headache yesterday with a high temperature and aching all over. I have been for a test this morning Confused I think it is possible to develop symptoms up to and including the 14th day of isolation.

Torvean32 · 04/11/2020 16:01

Why did you get tested if you had no symptoms?

Chocolate2020 · 04/11/2020 18:18

I didnt say I didn't have symptoms

SunbathingDragon · 04/11/2020 18:22

@Chocolate2020

I didnt say I didn't have symptoms
So what symptoms did you have for testing? How are you feeling now? How long did you spend together? Socially distanced? Ventilation?
LizzieMacQueen · 04/11/2020 19:19

How did your relative catch it OP (@Chocolate2020), can you work it out?

Dauphinois · 04/11/2020 19:24

There's no way round the 14 day isolation and you could develop symptoms at any point but I read somewhere that around day 5 after exposure is the most common time to show symptoms yourself if you've got it.

Fingers crossed....

SpornStar · 04/11/2020 19:29

My friend and her son tested positive. Did their 14 days isolation and on day 15 her partner, who had been isolating with them, developed symptoms and got tested (positive result on day 17). So testing negative a few days after your friend doesn’t mean you won’t develop symptoms over the next week or so, I’m afraid.

Chocolate2020 · 04/11/2020 20:48

Im someone who is constantly feeling sick, I have stomache problems that give me so Many symptoms and that week I felt worse and because Im always seeing that relative and helping them out and about it made me think I should get a test because I have been the same places as them.

Chocolate2020 · 04/11/2020 20:50

I hope I don't, I'm just worried because it's not just me who is isolating it me and my young kids

OP posts:
Chocolate2020 · 04/11/2020 20:52

We can't figure it out 🙁

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 04/11/2020 21:54

You don't have to figure anything out, you are required to remain confined for 14 days. If your kids get symptoms in that time then they get a test.

imnottoofussed · 04/11/2020 22:02

Earlier this year two people in my household of four were ill. One was ill about a week before the other. They went for testing and the first one to get ill result was negative, the second one to get ill result was positive. The other two people got no symptoms and didn't have tests therefore concluding they didn't get it (maybe they did but had no symptoms). So the fact you have been with someone for an hour doesn't necessarily mean you will have caught it and if you did it doesn't mean you are going to be ill with it.

Chocolate2020 · 04/11/2020 22:24

All I was asking was the likely hood of contracting it.. Wasn't asking for permission to go out 🙄
