I don't think I'm over-reacting and that DS needs a test?

DS (16) has a high temperature and was feeling a bit under the weather last night. This morning he still has a high temp and diarrhoea (which I know is rare in Covid). I've arranged for him to be tested this morning because of his temperature - DH says I'm overreacting and we should have just waiting to 'see how it goes'. I think he's being an irresponsible arsehole. I work in a school, DS is at 6th form and DD is also in secondary. I'm hopeful that it's just a bug and the result will be negative but I'm trying to do the responsible thing by getting him tested and no way would I send him to school. WWYD?

I thought stomach issues were a known issue with Covid? That along with a temp I’d definitely be getting him tested.

You are being responsible.

Saladfingersscaresme · 04/11/2020 09:22

Get him tested, he has one of the the major symptoms and lots of people have had diarrhoea with COVID. The email I had from school at the beginning of term said to get a child tested who has stomach issues, don’t automatically assume it’s a stomach bug.

MacDuffsMuff · 04/11/2020 09:23

I know it's not one of the main symptoms but can occur. Even with the temp alone, I would be getting him tested tbh.

It’s fine to get tested off the back of the temperature alone.

TheGreatWave · 04/11/2020 09:25

I got DD tested despite being 99% certain it wasn't because if there was even a teeny chance she did I didn't want her to end up spreading it.

Not over reacting and I’ve heard about diarrhoea from a few people

storminabuttercup · 04/11/2020 09:33

He's got a temp that's one of the three symptoms to get a test, you're totally not over reacting.

MacDuffsMuff · 04/11/2020 09:33

@Qwertywerty3 Yes of course, he's working from home anyway and I've kept DD off school today too until we get a result.

I think stomach issues are more common in children with covid. The temperature would prompt a test anyway though

Lindy2 · 04/11/2020 09:34

He has a temperature. That alone requires him to be tested.

If someone in a household has a temperature they need to be tested (it's not just a suggestion it's what you need to do). He either has a test or you all have to isolate for the full 14 days.

Without wanting to worry you diarrhoea is actually a very common symptom particularly in children.

You are being responsible. Your husband is not. Get him tested to make sure he is not spreading Coronavirus to other. It's the only way to be sure.

MissSmiley · 04/11/2020 09:36

Get him tested because of the temperature, I vomited the day I tested positive and my DH has had diarrhoea on and off for the last two weeks since his positive test

Danglingmod · 04/11/2020 09:36

Of course, YANBU.

Stomach issues are very common in children with Covid. Two of my colleagues in their twenties with confirmed Covid so had really bad diarrhoea.

I hope he's OK, OP.

H1978 · 04/11/2020 09:39

You are right and he is wrong!

Mindymomo · 04/11/2020 09:40

You are doing right. Nobody knows, he could be fine tomorrow, but it’s not worth the risk.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/11/2020 09:41

You're doing the right thing, you know you are. Your DH us being very irresponsible.

Stomach issues are very common early signs.

Hope he is ok though.

If he is, don't let DH say 'I told you so' because he still wouldn't be right!!

iolaus · 04/11/2020 10:24

He has a temp - therefore get tested

If he didn't have a raised temperature and only had the stomach issues then I'd say don't (I don't think 16 year olds count as children in terms of covid btw)

fishtankhelp · 05/11/2020 16:42

Any test result yet OP? How is he?
