So I was tracked and traced tonight on app says I must isolate for 9 days ( left of isolation ) so I’m guessing contact would have been Tuesday last week as it auto reduces your isolation from when your contact was.
However I have not left the house in the last week. The last time I went in anywhere public was 24th of October ? Other than that bit been out the front door. The person I was with say at the same table has not been tracked via her app.

It's completely believable that the app is not accurate and is getting it wrong left, right and centre but can you prove that you haven't been out, should you get caught?
I don't want to say yeah go for it only for one of your local curtain twitchers to dob you in and you get fined.

Firefliess · 03/11/2020 23:58

The app is anonymous so you won't get caught if you go out regardless. If you're completely sure you've not been somewhere you've forgotten, or had anyone come to the house (tradesmen? Cleaner? ) then I can't see any way you could really need to isolate. I do wonder whether the app can be triggered through walls - my phone spends the night next to my bed which is next to the wall to my neighbours bedroom. If they leave their phone on the other side of the wall, they'd be 2 foot away all night. (My app hasn't gone off so far though)

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/11/2020 00:15

It would make sense that your phone could connect to another in a semi bedroom. It's only an interior wall and my phone and watch connect all the time when they're in separate rooms, even multiple rooms apart.

Did you get any deliveries?

MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 00:32

So this would definately be a major problem for those in flats

Izitso · 04/11/2020 10:50

I received an alert at midnight telling me to self isolate for 12 days and countdown began. I haven't received any follow up email or text - are we supposed to just heed the app? I contacted 119 and they said I'll get a follow up email but nothing has arrived as yet. Just asking whether any of you had this same experience with the app. Thanks.

Orangeblossom7777 · 04/11/2020 11:03

I read you can get these false positives due to Bluetooth,

HarrietOh · 04/11/2020 11:09

They confirmed you won't get fined for not following app orders anyway. It's only through the track and trace phone calls where you must.

Orcus · 04/11/2020 11:17

And people wonder why so many are refusing to download the app!

Devilesko · 04/11/2020 11:19

This is happening to lots of people, a woman I know.
She hadn't been through the door either, but, tbh I'm surprised people are falling for this shit.

Izitso · 04/11/2020 11:31

I know, stuck between knowing about the problems with app and wanting to "do the right thing" to protect others - no worthwhile guidance for me from NHS apart from wait for follow up email so I guess that's what I'll do. Thanks all.

Firefliess · 04/11/2020 13:05

You won't receive a follow up email from having been flagged as a contact via the app alone. It doesn't know your email address.

That's why I've deleted the app. I live in a flat and I don't want it picking up my neighbours phones and telling me to isolate
Firefliess · 04/11/2020 13:12

I'm going to keep the app as it's a useful way of finding out quickly if I've been in contact with someone who's tested positive (assuming they don't tell me themselves even quicker of course) But if I know I've not been in close contact with anyone I don't know, and don't subsequently hear from the contact tracers to confirm the contact, I think I might be inclined to overrule a warning from the app alone.

No need to delete the app, you can turn off the contact tracing while you're are home if you're concerned about it picking up neighbours' phones. In theory though, Bluetooth strength through walls wouldn't be as strong as if you were in the same room, so it would have you as being further away from your neighbour than you actually are.

TheDailyCarbuncle · 04/11/2020 15:37

I work on the design of apps like this (though I haven't worked on the T&T app - someone I know did however) and I'm genuinely baffled as to how they expect it to work in any meaningful way. There are so many flaws in the basic design that it's essentially useless. I've downloaded it so I can check in to places that require it (not that it's needed now given everything is closed!) but I keep the bluetooth switched off as I know if I get a notification I just can't trust it.

timeforanewstart · 04/11/2020 15:39

My dad had a email linked to app he thinks saying his covid test was negative , he hasn't been for a test

timeforanewstart · 04/11/2020 15:40

Told him maybe it was a scam ?

Izitso · 04/11/2020 15:42

Just an update - doesn't change much - but I was able to apply for and download an official proof of isolation form on the www.gov.uk website. I'm going to isolate anyway. Thanks again for the input.
