Do I need to isolate?

I saw my sister and her DD and DS last Tuesday night, neither had symptoms. We stayed over 1m apart in doors but both petted a new kitten over the course of the evening (probably around 2/3 hours together)

Yesterday sister and her DD tested positive for covid (started feeling poorly Thursday evening) DS is not positive

I am currently at home, OH is working, should be both be isolating?

I have checked the government guidance but I am still unclear and don't want to be leaving the house if we should be isolating

If you saw her 48 hours or more before her symptoms started, you don't need to isolate.

If it was less than 48 hours then isolate, but your OH wouldn't need to isolate unless you start showing symptoms.

If you were near each other 48 hours before symptoms started then I'd think about social distancing from others. You aren't legally obliged to isolate unless told to be Test and Trace but they are not doing a great job at contacting people in a timely manner

And if your dh wasn't there he wouldn't need to isolate unless you got symptoms

When to self-isolate

Self-isolate immediately if:

  • you have anysymptoms of coronavirus(a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
  • you've tested positive for coronavirus – this means you have coronavirus
  • you live with someone who has symptoms or tested positive
  • someone in your support bubble has symptoms or tested positive
  • you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app
  • you arrive in the UK from a country with a high coronavirus risk – seeGOV.UK: how to self-isolate when you travel to the UK

(If none of these apply then legally you don't have to - it also depends if it was more or less than 48 hours before symptoms started)

Thanks for clarifying guys, looks like we're starting lockdown 2 early.
