Does our self isolation start again now?

sofia31 · 03/11/2020 16:34

Me positive, isolating from 24th Oct.
DS1 negative on 29th Oct despite symptoms.
DH positive 1st Nov.
DS2 no symptoms.

I read on website that because it was within the isolation period, both DS can go back to school after 14 days.
T and T say to start again from 1st Nov!

From gov website:

Returning to your normal routine

If you remain well, you can return to your normal routine at the end of the 14-day period. You do not need to isolate for longer than 14 days, even if other household members develop symptoms during this period. However, the person with new symptoms should now self-isolate for 10 days. People in the household who remain well after 14 days are unlikely to be infectious.

Appreciate any help figuring out who is correct here. Thank you.

I think the 14 days for everyone started on the first day of your symptoms. After that they can go out / back to school unless they have symptoms or positive test
Your dh starts his 10 day isolation from day 1 of his symptoms/ positive test

girlsyearapart · 03/11/2020 16:39

We are in a similar position here op. DH back to work as he’s done his 10 days. Me and the kids are still isolating

dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 16:42

T&T are wrong. Once the original 14 dsys is finished they can return to normal. Your dh isolates for 10 days

Thank you for confirming what I thought. A shame there are so many mixed messages out there though!

If you have been in close enough contact with DH that you would count as a contact if you didn't live with him the 14 days will start again. This is because all contacts of those who test positive need to isolate for 14 days. Anybody who hasn't met this level of contact (15 minutes within 2 meters, 1 minute within a meter, extended period in the same room) can leave the house after their original period of isolation as long as they continue to isolate from DH.

dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 18:55

That's not what it says though. You do not have to restart isolation if he gets symptoms within the original 14 day isolation period. OP has linked the information from the .gov website saying this

Babz88 · 03/11/2020 19:14

Test and trace are right though as your husband counts as a new close contact. We have just been in the same situation.

StatisticalSense · 03/11/2020 19:21

@dementedpixie
It's to do with different isolation requirements. As a household you have to isolate for 14 days from the point that the first person in the household develops symptoms. As an individual you have to isolate for 14 days from the point at which you were last in close contact with someone who goes on to test positive from symptoms that developed within 48 hours of your last contact (or tests positive asymptomatically from a sample that was taken with 48 hours of your last contact). This is yet another reason why it is essential that households isolate from each other following a family member developing symptoms as those who properly isolate from their family will be able to finish isolation earlier than those who don't and whose family goes on to catch the virus.

StatisticalSense, so are you saying I need to isolate for another 14 days? I was the one who gave it to DH in the first case, and am still recovering myself.

Statistical Sense, so are you saying I should also isolate again? I was the person who gave it to DH in the first place, and am still recovering from my own case.

Yourself and your children all finish isolation after 14 days, your DH needs to do 10 days from when he started symptoms .
If after the initial 14 days isolation period, someone in the household starts with symptoms, the whole process starts again for everyone

dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 21:12

The OP tested positive so already has covid. They are still within the original 14 day period too

@mightyducks.. that is absolutely not what the govt website says

The diagram attached is 100% clear.. you finish your isolation and if you are well you return to your normal day to day routin .. if someone else tests positive in your household they isolate you dont

@frasersmummy It’s in the guidance www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection#after-the-isolation-period-has-ended

See ‘if someone else in your household becomes unwell ‘ section

But that says "If anyone in your household develops COVID-19 symptoms after their isolation period has ended, they should arrange to have a test and everyone in the household should follow the steps in this guidance again, even if they have had a positive COVID-19 test in the past.".

The OP's dh developed symptoms and tested positive within the 14-day isolation period, not after it had ended.

I didn’t say she needs to continue to isolate , I said she and her children finish Isolation after 14 days , I’m not sure what isn’t clear?

Then I was explaining when they would need to start isolating again and why...

dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 23:10

She doesn't need to isolate for 14 days though as she has covid herself. She isolates for 10 days

mightyducks · 03/11/2020 23:16

@dementedpixie yes you’re right ,10 days for herself, not 14
