Music lessons

Dd play guitar.
Goes to teachers house for lessons after school.
I had assumed in lockdown this wouldn't be allowed but music teacher seems to think it falls under education so is ok?

Teacher is obviously seeing a lot of students throughout the week and not sure I'm that happy with it, although mainly because I feel it's breaking the rules not because I'm so concerned about the risk.

What would everyone else think?

Ours has said the same so they are going as teacher thinks it’s covered and I assume he will be the one in trouble if it isn’t!

I would rather in person lessons so if he we can have them then we are!

I am a music teacher and am waiting for advice from my union today, however many of my colleagues are going online.

pastandpresent · 03/11/2020 10:25

Same here, teacher says it will carry on, but let us know if that changes.
As for teacher meeting many children, it's same at school. And it's way easier for teachers to make it covid safe measures at home as she is doing it now, so I'm not worried.

DD's drama classes are going online. Haven't heard about her cello lessons yet.

Bramshott · 03/11/2020 10:42

It's currently a bit unclear, but if you would be happier having online lessons why not ask DD's teacher?

Bramblespoint · 03/11/2020 11:15

I might ask to go online but feel slightly pressured as apparently "everyone" else is still happy with face to face so not sure if I'm being silly

I think he's right. It falls under education. I would much prefer my child has music lessons face to face. It's not easy to learn a musical instrument properly online, especially for something like violin!

Qasd · 03/11/2020 11:55

Your paying so if you want zoom just say our teacher has said he will do zoom and certainly continued with zoom for those that preferred it after he went back face to face. As I said I prefer face to face so will continue if legally allowed but I don’t think you are being “silly” to want online and shouldn’t feel so for requesting it!

musicposy · 03/11/2020 12:05

I assumed it’s not allowed. After all, swimming etc is closed and that’s education too.
I teach music and I’ve told my pupils we need to go back online. I’d rather not do it but I don’t want to get reported and find out I wasn’t allowed after all. I wish the guidelines were clearer - I’ve read them all through and can’t find anything that says yes or no.

There’s also the issue that it rankles a bit to have 25 children from different families and schools round my house when I’m not allowed to see my daughter. That makes no sense to me.

I’ll be interested to see what the unions say.

anothernamereally · 03/11/2020 12:38

I'm also awaiting further guidance from my union - I will continue face to face if it is allowed as I much prefer teaching that way.
I have much more control of my teaching room at home than I do in schools- if I'm expected to go from school to school then I see little difference from home

My son gets lessons through the school that I pay for . All been moved online .
