Anyone know what happens with disabled children if parents are unwell

My dd is 14, she has cerebral palsy. I have been very anxious about myself and DH catching covid at the same time and being too unwell to care for her (no outside support apart from DH parents who are very elderly)

But its just occurred to me if DD got covid and god forbid was unwell enough to need hospital but myself and DH were both positive as well they wouldn't let us go with her I assume? What happens then? I genuinely have nobody who could accompany her. She's autistic as well so absolutely could not advocate for herself.

Its given me terrors just thinking about it. Does anyone know what would happen?

The staff would look after her.
She would get excellent care.
Try not to dwell on it it's fairly unlikely Flowers

Every hospital has a Learning Disability Liaison Nurse, they are brilliant. But I do understand your worry.

It's very unlikely that yr DD would be ill enough to require hospital anyway OP, given her age and gender - am assuming no underlying physical health conditions. So try not to dwell on the possibility.

IF it would help ease yr mind, maybe talk to professionals involved with her (GP?) about completing a hospital passport for her,,which gives info about the person, their needs, likes, dislikes, communication means etc.

@TheQueef thank you for the kind words ❤️

@Augustbreeze She has cerebral palsy as well as autism although it only affects her legs (no swallowing difficulties etc) so I've been assured she shouldn't be at any additional risk but it's hard not to worry.

The hospital passport is a fantastic idea though! Thank you so much

I think if your dd and you were both positive then you could be together in hospital but you would have to remain on the ward and follow the same rules as the other patients. A parent is allowed to remain with a covid positive child and there is always the possibility they will catch it. The chance though of all 3 of you being very unwell is very very small.
