Fuming I can't even buy nappies.

Me and my partner both work in a supermarket.
For over a week now we have been trying to buy nappies for our 16 month old. Cannot get 1 pack.
Went in today to do our shop and the whole aisle was empty. Was absolutely nothing. Non in the warehouse. Nothing.

It really does anger me that people can be so selfish and greedy. There is no need to stupidly panic buy.
I have now had offers from relatives to send us some in the post from where they live around the country.
I just find it very sad that at times like this, people still can't be thoughtful of others Sad
Sorry for the rant!

Not sure where you are but there's no shortages here, supermarket was fully stocked

movingonup20 · 03/11/2020 13:14

Oh and it's about as busy as a normal Friday I would say rather than Tuesdays which are typically quieter

@B1rthis

Why don't you switch to reusable nappies? Might make future lockdowns easier too.
It wouldn't have helped me keep 5 month old twins alive with 3 kids in cloth nappies Fair play to those who do but I was struggling to keep on top of it when o just had to wipe and chuck. And yes I know I'm a terrible human making a horrible world full of dirty nappies for generations to come.

Cloth nappies are a nice suggestion but it doesn't suit everyone's life style. Some nurseries/childminders etc won't accept them, and some people just don't have time to plough through all of that extra washing. I used them with my first and it was great, but I was a SAHM with only one baby. I had my babies close together, and by the time number 3 rolled around, there was no way in hell I was going to do all of that extra washing. Maybe I'll go back to it when there's only 1 left in nappies and it's a bit more unmanageable.

I had three in nappies for three years and we used disposables when travelling but cloth for the rest of the time. It really ISN’T more hassle to wash rather than buy and bin. I just washed a load every evening. I think very hard if you don’t have a washing machine and tumble dryer for rainy days.

Personally I found the extra laundry a PITA. It's not just the nappies, it's the clothes and bedding if the nappies leak. And cloth nappies do leak more than disposables; we had a heavy wetter and struggled to get enough absorbency overnight even with extra inserts and boosters etc.

DH managed to persuade me to use cloth nappies with DC1 for a while (I was reluctant!) but I have so far resisted them for DC2, I've told him I can't be arsed - sorry but it's hard enough adjusting to having two! The laundry seems never ending as it is!

I dont own a tumble drier. Maybe that's part of it.

5zeds · 03/11/2020 22:18

I think if you have loads of them and somewhere to dry them when it rains it’s fairly easy without a tumble dryer, otherwise I don’t think it would work. For me it saved trying to lug bales of disposables from the supermarket and sacks of dirty ones out to the bin. Leaking less of an issue here but I expect that’s shape and a bit of luck.

iolaus · 03/11/2020 22:24

I'm in Wales, rather than England - but why is there an issue?

I genuinely don't remember any empty shelves when our 'firebreak' lockdown was announced - in terms of shopping we haven't had any problems getting any items

Shops aren’t having these problems here.

randomsabreuse · 03/11/2020 23:14

I found with DC1 cloth were more reliable and less likely to leak than disposables but she was a narrow hipped skinny thing. Have barely used with DC2 but keeping my biggest ones in case I can't get any - he's chunkier at 2 than his sister is at 5 - shoulders, chest waist and hips all marginally bigger than big sis, just much shorter.
