No alcohol takeaways from cafes/pubs question

My local cafe has a fantastic off licence section which sells mainly craft beers from local breweries. It pretty much kept us same through the last lockdown (they were selling beer etc to take out but the cafe area was closed). However as I understand it, this time around alcohol takeaways won't be allowed. What I'm unclear about us whether that means 'poured' drinks only (as in, my local micropub, which sold beer from the pumps in takeaway bottles they sealed themselves) or cans and bottles sold by a cafe but as if it were an off licence (which are permitted to be open)? Sorry if I'm not making much sense!

I've tried phoning and messaging via Facebook but no reply as yet. Just wondering if I need to go down tomorrow and panic buy chocolate stout...

The cafe isn't going to know either. This is what the current guidance says:

Hospitality venues like restaurants, bars and pubs must close, but can still provide takeaway and delivery services. However, takeaway of alcohol will not be allowed.

And that's all the guidance there is. It may be that when it gets debated in Parliament on Weds it is changed, but at present the guidance is there will be no takeway away of alcohol, which means a blanket ban on all forms.

I’m in Scotland look and in B a tier 3 and alcohol sales from restaurants and pubs is banned, basically there licence isn’t in force. Stock up!

Anyone know what the logic behind it is?

Comefromaway · 03/11/2020 10:38

Dd will be disappointed. She gets paid to order takeaways including alcohol to check if they ask her for ID.

I'm surprised especially as it was allowed last time and its why Weatherspoons and other pubs are selling their Ale and things off so cheap. Case of sell it or throw it away.

It's to stop drunken Brits gathering in the street to drink their takeaways from pubs, like they did the last lockdown.

alreadytaken · 03/11/2020 12:02

My bet will be poured drinks only. If not then the business can still legally deliver to your home and probably legally do click and collect.

Isn't it because last time people just gathered on the pavement outside the pubs with their take away pints? Obviously the weather was more suited to that then, though...
