Extremely vulnerable ie former shielders advice update ? Where?

The guidance for the new restrictions published on Saturday evening says that new advice for folk like me was to be published today. I am expecting a letter in the next few days . Would really like it because my daughter works in hospitality but they are proposing takeaways so she may still be working —even though it will be dead if it’s like last time— I would rather she was furloughed TBH . Timely Updated advice might help . Too much to ask for?

I’ve just been looking for new information too but couldn’t find anything.

I received several letters during the first lockdown and shielded from March until August but I’m not sure I now meet the ECV criteria as it has changed. My employer wants to know ASAP.

@30ishiwish what criteria has changed ?

I think some of the previously defined as extremely clinically vulnerable conditions are now on the clinically vulnerable list but I could be wrong.

I take immunosuppressants but not sure I take enough to now be defined as ECV.

The guidance is ambiguous - it states that ECV includes people who are on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection whereas before, it was simply people who are on immunosuppression therapies.

It looks like asthma is CV but severe asthma is CEV.

Is it to do with how much steroids you take?

My 9yr old has aplastic anaemia and an auto immune illness that requires her to have an immunosuppressant treatment, and she has daily antibiotics. We got a letter shortly after her diagnosis (in August) from her GP saying she should shield, but her specialists said not to. Now that numbers are really going up, and she’s in primary school every day, I’m getting quite concerned but will await further advice from her specialists. What exactly did shielding involve? The guidance says that children should still go to school unless they’re part of “a very small group who are advised not to” which doesn’t really help...

Confuseeeeed25 · 02/11/2020 18:30

@JumpJockey the list of extremely vulnerable children is really small, a lot of children were removed from the list. If she was not on most previously via consultant specialist then she is unlikely to be this time.

JumpJockey · 02/11/2020 18:40

The thing is, she was diagnosed in August, so after the shielding advice changed anyway! The letter from the GP says she needs to follow the advice for the ECV group and that her name is on the shielded list. Well, we’ll wait to hear from her specialists again about this time round. It’s been enough of a bloody rollercoaster over the last three months, we just want to keep her safe.

Look at the worldwide hospitalisation and death rates. The most extremely clinically vulnerable are diabetes (1 in 4 of the deaths), cardiovascular issues, pulmonary (but not asthma unless severe), kidney conditions, hypertension, and obesity.

There's evidence to suggest that immunosuppressant medication can actually protect against severe illness with Covid. Note that patients on immunosuppressants have tended to be underrepresented in hospitalisations.

Obviously nothing is certain yet (more research is needed) and caution is still advised, but this information might be of help to you.
