Asthma and positive test

SheilaTakeABow · 01/11/2020 11:26

Just what it says really. Anyone with moderate asthma had a positive test? Until fairly recently, my asthma was well controlled, but it's gone downhill recently, and a few weeks ago montelukast was added into the Fostair mix.
Had a positive test result today, totally unexpected, after thinking I should get a test as I had what feels like a standard cold. I felt far worse in terms of breathing earlier this year when I had something strange that I assumed was the virus - was even on the long covid threads for a while.
In danger of getting myself in a right state looking at worst-case scenarios, so I wondered if anyone with asthma has recently been found positive and what their experiences were.
Thanks

Found this thread very reassuring. I have moderate asthma was on 100/6 fostair inhaler and my asthma starting playing up added montelukust but that didn't help .Now on fostair nexthaler and that seems to be working.I am working and have DC's at secondary and I won't lie i am really worried if I caught it then it could make me really ill but this has reassured me .

Hope you feel better soon to .

Well, @Echo08, I still wouldn't recommend it Grin. However, my now extensive Googling and the responses here do seem to suggest there's no massive suggestion of worse outcomes, so that's good.

yes dp on Fostair, I'm only on ventolin with the occasional bout of brown inhaler when it flares up (mine is really now only exercise induced asthma or from any infection)

I got the cough and yes it was slightly croupy. Had one night where I was a bit panicked but the blue inhaler helped. I was ill for maybe a week but probably coughed for a month and wasn't back to full fitness (as in able to go for a run) for around 6 weeks.

dp, despite having really quite bad asthma, never coughed once but his chest was more wheezy and he was prescribed steroids which worked v quickly - it took him a lot longer to recover but neither of us needed any other medical treatment. He was getting temperatures and was very tired for about 3 weeks but was never bed ridden.

we were both confirmed cases

if you are panicky, I would suggest getting a pulse oximeter. I had one at home anyway as I had a major asthma attack in 2016 and was hospitalised. Bizarrely, my asthma now incredibly mild but I found it at the back of the cupboard and when I thought i was breathing badly, I used it and my O2 levels were fine and that was hugely reassuring!

SheilaTakeABow · 03/11/2020 11:03

Thanks @HappyThursdays, and glad to hear you're both recovered.
I have an oximeter from the last time I thought I had Covid in April before they were testing, and it is a massive help.
Just a case of taking each day as it comes - and keeping the panic at bay Smile

Glad everyone is still improving.

I'd read another coronavirus can cause croup and as that's a common asthma flare symptom for me, wondered if anyone has had it with confirmed tests.

Sounds like a bad too though happy, glad you're on the mend now.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you recover ok OP.

I've found this thread reassuring as a fellow asthma sufferer.

SheilaTakeABow · 02/12/2020 22:23

I just wanted to pop back on here for anyone else who finds the thread, and say I'm fine!

Obviously, Covid affects everyone totally differently, and I really wouldn't recommend it Wink but, for me as someone with moderate asthma, it wasn't that bad, chest-wise.

I did have an odd sensation in my lungs and a pressure feeling in my chest. There was only one point where I felt my breathing was in any way compromised. Rang 111, they referred to GP, who listened to me, asked about peak flow and oximeter readings (lower than usual but not hugely), told me exactly what to be aware of and reassured me.

Keeping calm helps.

So, that's that. Five weeks later, I'm fine (again, I realise this may not be the case for everyone), and so I just wanted to give my full picture to anyone with asthma at the start of their Covid Journey (TM).
