Are you still having your cleaner come?

During the 4 week lockdown? Last time mine didn't come but I continued to pay her. Am inclined to let her continue coming now. She is allowed to work under the rules, and we've got into a good routine where we can keep our distance when she's here.

What are the rest of you doing?

I've been debating this.

Our house is empty whilst she comes. If she wears a mask and has all the windows open I think the risk is low.

But we cannot afford to get COVID-19 so I'm just not sure.

movingonup20 · 01/11/2020 12:59

I cancelled mine in March and never rehired one - I'm now unemployed!

userxx · 01/11/2020 13:19

@BunsyGirl as I mentioned, a drop in income is a fair enough reason, but it sounded more like sour grapes because your husband wasn't entitled. If she's self employed she will be claiming the grant, if she's on furlough that means she's the director of a limited company and will be claiming next to nothing.

avocadotofu · 01/11/2020 13:22

Ours will definitely still be coming. She didn't come last time and it made our lives a lot harder.

JanewaysBun · 01/11/2020 13:22

I'll give mine the option to come.if she want s as she comes when DS has a class (which is staying open anyway). I will pay her either way. Paid her in full not to come last time

SquigglePigs · 01/11/2020 13:25

If it's still within the rules and she's happy to come then I have every intention of carrying on. I love how the house feels after she's gone and really don't want to have to do it all myself if I don't have to.

Branleuse · 01/11/2020 13:26

last time I paid her a retainer, but not full cost. This time ive said im happy to have her if shes happy to come, but will do it when everyone is out

BellaVita · 01/11/2020 13:31

No, but she will do some ironing for us in her own home instead. I drop it outside of her door and she drops it back the same way.

Last time in lockdown, we still paid her as we were still getting paid.

Lurkingforawhile · 01/11/2020 13:35

If mine would like to come still I'd be very happy to have her. We've missed out the last two times (due to isolating / childcare) and the house could do with her coming!

Punkpumpkin · 01/11/2020 13:35

Yes I very much hope they will. We’ll all be out so as safe as it can be for them.

We paid them all through lockdown last time as our salaries were unaffected but honestly I’m not sure I’ll carry on paying this time if they decide not to come as money is a bit tight for us atm and I’ve paid more for them not to clean than to clean this year so far!

byvirtue · 01/11/2020 13:36

Yes, we had a cleaner come through all but the first 3 weeks of the last lockdown. We had zero cases in our area on Friday I doubt there has been an exponential rise over the weekend to warrant cleaners not coming if it is their job and they are happy to do it.

PatchworkElmer · 01/11/2020 13:36

Not sure. I think we probably will.

onemouseplace · 01/11/2020 13:43

Not sure yet, I’m happy for her to come and ventilate the house afterwards. DH doesn’t want her to come.

We paid her in full last time, but like others I’m not sure we can justify it this time (we’ve also had a drop in income, but not so much that we can’t afford a cleaner).

FinallyFluid · 07/11/2020 01:16

I opened all the windows an hour before she came, she worked away, DH stayed in the front room, door closed. DS stayed in his pit room.

I meant to go out, but I was obsessing about the US result, so stayed in my room until she was ready to do it.

She left after two hours, it took several hours to get the house back up to heat.

Popfan · 07/11/2020 07:57

Yes, we are all out when she comes so risk minute if any.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/11/2020 10:19

Don’t have a cleaner but no, I wouldn’t be having anyone else in the house unless essential work like the boiler going off.

caringcarer · 07/11/2020 10:57

Would having a tutor come to house for 1 hour 3 times a week be acceptable? It is education and in conservatory with door open to garden. Son sits at table and tutor 3 meters away at white board. He comes to house to work do I was hoping it will be ok.

StanfordPines · 07/11/2020 11:01

Yes.
She didn’t come last time and as we were both on full pay I paid her throughout. I figured that if she needs £20 enough to come and clean my house for it then she needs it more than I do.

We are both back at work out of the home now so she’s coming when we are out.

Popfan · 07/11/2020 11:04

Unless your son is home educated entirely then no it's against the rules. We have a tutor once a week who comes to our house so I checked. We have changed to online tutoring until lock down is finished.

Cookerhood · 07/11/2020 11:10

No, tutoring not allowed.
Ours are coming but we make sure we are out & the windows are open. One of the things that got to my mental health last time was the mess (cleaners give us discipline to tidy up once a week) & we have 2 extra people in the house now.

BenoneBeauty · 07/11/2020 11:17

Ours didn't come last time and we continued to pay her but this time as it's allowed, I expect she will come and if she doesn't then I won't be paying. The house will either be empty or we'll stay in a room that she won't clean so there will be absolutely no contact.

BillyAndTheSillies · 07/11/2020 11:55

Ours is still coming. She drives herself here with her colleague and brings all her own equipment. They're in the house for an hour max.

Cookerhood · 07/11/2020 12:18

It was allowed last time, it's just most people decided it wasn't worth the risk.
BenoneBeauty · 07/11/2020 13:32

I didn't think it was allowed last time at all but regardless, at that time we wouldn't have been able to stay out of the way as there are 6 people in the house, but this time around the house will be empty (or max 1-2 people in when the cleaner is there so can easily stay in 1 room and have no contact).

BackforGood · 07/11/2020 15:43

Yes. She texted everyone to say she was still able to come if people wanted her and so she is coming this time.
The rules are different from the Summer, when she didn't come but I did continue to pay her. Our house is big enough that dh shuts himself in where he is working, and I can go out or hide in another room.
