Question about playgrounds

CathyandHeathcliff · 01/11/2020 07:39

I have a 2 year old and if playgrounds are staying open, I’ll be taking him to them.
My question is, what if we are there and another parent and child I know are also there?
It says you can’t ‘meet up’ but if we accidentally bump into them, do we have to ignore them? The children will inevitably play together. Not sure what the answer is, so please be kind!

This is where common sense comes into play. Keep your distance, don’t stand less than 2m away from them.

Bickles · 01/11/2020 07:41

Stay socially distanced I guess?

ragged · 01/11/2020 07:41

You wouldn't get worse than a scolding from some busy body if they did play together. There was suggestion in one comment that social distancing might not apply to young children, Scottish/Dutch style.

StealthPolarBear · 01/11/2020 07:42

But you can meet outside with one other individual. Surely thi would cover your children playing.

IamChipmunk · 01/11/2020 07:43

I had this conversation with my dh last night. We live in a village and often see people we know at the park...
Im not sure of the answer either.
I guess I will maintain social distance and sanitise mine and kids hands frequently as we do now.

NiceViper · 01/11/2020 07:47

Greet from a distance . Don't mingle.

DC , even very young ones, count as people in England, and two meeting two is not on

JaJaDingDong · 01/11/2020 07:50

Do you really have to go to a play ground?
Much as I hate the idea of lockdown, again, in the winter, I really think you can find other outdoor ways to entertain your child for four weeks.

NiceViper · 01/11/2020 07:58

Of course you can go to a sodding playground, when yesterday's publication said they can stay open

But you go for the DC to play, and you keep away from others

CathyandHeathcliff · 01/11/2020 08:22

Thank you everyone. If I see anyone there I know I’ll socual distance. I’m not sure I can force my toddler to do so though.

You’re the adult. You pick up your toddler and go home.
JanewaysBun · 01/11/2020 08:28

I know lots of people in my area and know most of the mums in the playground. Surely you just greet/chat from a distance.

This happens anyway as I'm mostly running after my toddlers and stopping them from doing dangerous things Grin

Do you really have to be a sanctimonious twit?

The worst thing about last lockdown was lack of play areas and things for kids to do. Maybe where you live there are loads of nice places to walk and ways to entertain kids outdoors in the rain, but many people don't have that luxury. Seeing a friend in the park socially distanced is not a high risk activity. Don't make people feel guilty about it.

JanewaysBun · 01/11/2020 08:30

And I shall definitely be using the playground. We only have a communal garden and it is not very toddler appropriate

Completmentfille · 01/11/2020 08:30

Not that you've got a stick up your arse or anything.

goalpostmover · 01/11/2020 08:32

You need to think of the potential spread, if you are also using grandparents for childcare or have someone vulnerable in your support bubble I'd give playgrounds a miss for a month.

However if you're only seeing immediate family then imo you could visit the park, other families there should also have thought about their own situation.

I think what I'm trying to say is it's about common sense not necessarily interpretation of rules.

@JaJaDingDong

Do you know anything AT ALL about kids??

Grobagsforever · 01/11/2020 08:46

Many, many scientists have confirmed the risk of outdoor spread is vanishingly small. I would be guided by that actual fact rather BoJo or the MN lockdown Stasi.

Yes, you can talk to your friend, just don't lick her Grin

Go on then, list them...

This.

Playgrounds are hardly heaving at this time of the year anyway.

Just don't put a fully waterproofed toddler on a wet slide... it's amazing how far they can bounce off the end...

goalpostmover · 01/11/2020 09:42

@BogRollBOGOF so tempted to dress the toddler in waterproofs and try it now Grin
