Help...Flight Departs Tuesday!

I’m not sure where we stand at the moment. My husband and I are supposed to be flying to Greece (within travel corridor) on Tuesday with TUI. We’ve had an email from them to say that flights scheduled for departure up to Wednesday will be going ahead.

So I’m very confused...do we have to and are we really allowed to go seeings as they are operating the flight? I’d obviously love the holiday, as would anyone else right now (please don’t start name calling 🙏), but just don’t know what to do.

I’ve also seen the attached on the Independent.

What would you do?

I would go, but I would have no problem with quarantine on return.

Are you worried about being stuck there? I think that is very unlikely

Frazzled2207 · 31/10/2020 23:10

Is it a package? If so they will not fly you out without flying you back.
I’d definitely go. Brilliant timing potentially.

I would go but would factor in that I would have to quarantine on return

If you are not prepared to quarantine then best not to go

Thank you @VampireVicki. We have no problem with self-isolating after too. We’re both self-employed and WFH.

A little worried about being stuck out there but TUI have made lots of promises to get people back etc. Also really don’t want the judgement from other people if we go!

Ah you guys are making me feel better. Thank you! Yes, it’s a package and all inclusive too, so really won’t even need to leave the hotel in Greece.

If you go you'll need to remember to book an online shop for when you get back and/or have lots of food in before you go.

Lots of people have apparently been assuming post holiday isolation doesn't not include a trip to the supermarket...

Lots of food freezes well that you might not think about eg bread/milk etc

I your case I'd do a big shop before I went away so I was confident we wouldn't be left in the lurch.

amicissimma · 31/10/2020 23:18

I think if the airline/holiday firm cancels they have to refund you, but if you cancel they don't. I doubt they can afford refunds for dates where they are allowed to fly; travel companies are in dire straits at the moment.

I doesn't look as if you are breaking any rules and I don't think whatever risk random MNers may claim you will be posing is much different if you fly back on 10th (assuming it's a weeks holiday) than if you were flying back on 4th.

I do wonder what the situation is for people who are away in this country and due back next weekend. They would not be travelling to their holiday area, but they would be overnighting away from home from the Thursday, so are they supposed to rush home early?

Quincy69 · 31/10/2020 23:19

I would definitely go. What's the worst that can happen - a change of flight and isolation upon return.
There is always a way to come back to the UK, especially when organised by a travel provider. So go and enjoy your holiday!

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 23:21

I'd totally go. I'd get a food order sorted before I went though, and would probably cook for the freezer a bit over the next couple of days. Maybe order some Hello Fresh boxes or something.

BeaKind · 01/11/2020 04:14

Thanks so much everyone. Food shop is already ordered for the Weds morning 🙂

I’ve been frantically trying to find out. There’s no guidance.

Not against a lockdown but given it wasn’t outside the realm of possibilities, it would have been great if they could have spent the time making more useful PowerPoint slides than the wall of numbers they presented on TV Hmm
