I have a new bathroom being fitted Wednesday and Thursday this week. Are workmen allowed in? Can’t find the answer to this anywhere

Would have thought they come under construction and unable to work from home so would be allowed.

Newpuppymummy · 31/10/2020 21:17

Thank you 🤞

Yes. Tradespeople are allowed to enter homes to carry out work.

I'm due a carpet for my extension this week. Really hoping it came be fitted or it will be a cold November!

We're in the same situation but due to start on Monday (will take about a week due to the amount of tiles!) As far as I know it seems to be permitted though my plumber is calling tomorrow to confirm what we want to do. When the bathroom is torn out on Monday they will need to finish I guess! I'm really anxious about keeping it safe because they'll have to go in and out of the house to the skip, in and out of the spare room where we're keeping all the new appliances. So they can't really stick just to the bathroom. We have sanitizer and masks, I'm just worried about aerosol transmission indoors due to how long the smaller droplets can hang around. It's a small house with small windows that don't open very far. Me and DH will be wfh in a separate room but I'm guessing droplets would still be in the air hours later!

Following as we are meant to be having ours done week after next!

I wanted to get a new carpet before Xmas ... so hoping they still can!

TheDogsMother · 31/10/2020 23:35

You have to work from home unless your work doesn't allow. So I would say yes.

Char2015 · 31/10/2020 23:36

I really wish they would adjust this guidance so that only essential works are carried out in other's homes. Unless it's for an emergency situation, a new bathroom is not essential, nor is a new carpet being laid.

If you don’t have a bathroom in place I’d say a bathroom is essential.

A carpet not so much. We’ve not had one for 3 years. If I have to wait another few months it won’t be the end of the world. But who wants to do number 2 or have a shower in the garden in this weather Hmm

We are also due to have a new bathroom fitted the week after next. It's already been delayed once during the earlier lockdown.

To be honest I would be happy to put it off indefinitely. I feel that might be unfair on the small father and son company doing the work and DH is keen to go ahead, but I feel a bit anxious about it.

For most of the time there would only be one workman in the house and we could use the en suite and keep out of one another's way but it's just not an urgent job .. I will reflect on what to do tomorrow.

Char2015 · 31/10/2020 23:50

@EasterIssland

Perhaps I was wrong in assuming OP already has a bathroom already with bath and toilet, which would need to be ripped out and a new one fitted. Therefore, would not be essential if OP currently has working bath, toilet, sink currently fitted.

If everyone stops doing everything then we are going to go bankrupt as a country. You can’t just put life on hold for nearly a year without huge consequences.
Tigerswife · 01/11/2020 01:09

Same here, but new kitchen. Old one falling to bits, broken sink etc.

It is if you're a bathroom or carpet fitter.

It's not the sort of activity which entails significant social mixing.
