Two childcare bubbles?

I'm scouring the internet but can't seem to find an answer. Does anyone know if I can have a childcare bubble with both sets of grandparents (one set does two days and the other does one day). I'm a teacher so can't work from home.

My friend told me last week its one childcare bubble only.

november90 · 31/10/2020 20:33

I'm not sure of the answer but following just to see if childcare unless are still allowed too :)

YorkshireLawyer · 31/10/2020 20:35

No, you can’t. It has to be the same person providing the childcare on each occasion, and they can only provide childcare to one household (ie they can’t look after your DC one day and then another set of DGC another day).

Littleguggi · 31/10/2020 20:36

I'm in exactly the same position so will be following this thread..

MalbecIsMyOne · 31/10/2020 20:36

I’m also inserting this, our nanny works for another family as well as us. Which is fairly common I think. Lots of clarification needed after tonight!

YorkshireLawyer · 31/10/2020 20:37

www.gov.uk/guidance/local-covid-alert-level-high

If you scroll down to the childcare section it’s in there.

My DD attends nursery 2 days, paternal grandparents one day and maternal grandparents the other day. How do I choose 1 set of grandparents over the other! Plus, both grandparents only have my DD to look after, no other children/grandchildren!

There were different rules for nannies under the rules which were in place in the summer so worth checking this. Different to childcare bubble rules
YorkshireLawyer · 31/10/2020 20:40

@MalbecIsMyOne I don’t think the rules on childcare bubbles will apply in your situation (though am not 100%). The childcare bubble is in relation to informal unpaid childcare eg by DGP. I think your nanny would still be allowed to work for both families - I can’t see that should be any different from eg a nursery or childminder where children of different households can still mix.

Nochangeplease · 31/10/2020 20:40

Even if it’s not allowed, you need to do what’s right for you. You can’t give up your job and you need childcare.

Greenmarmalade · 31/10/2020 20:41

Don’t overthink it. Just do it- you probably don’t have much choice anyway.

BlackPetunia · 31/10/2020 20:42

and we wonder why its spreading and getting us locked down further!

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 31/10/2020 20:42

When I looked last week for my area (that had gone into tier 2) it appeared that official childcare providers can provide care to more than one household i.e. a childminder could work with different families, but informal childcare arrangements have to be one bubble. So you can't have both sets of grandparents looking after a child or the same grandparents looking after other children.

I can only assume that with schools and nurseries staying open during this second lockdown that the rules above will stay similar.

Bridecilla · 31/10/2020 20:42

We're in the same position op. Both teachers in FE in a different city to ds' school. Can't get home before half 5 /6pm

My parents do 2 mornings and 2 afternoons. DPs parents do 1 after school.

No way we can get him in anybextra after school club sessions. They're fully booked.

We're fucked.

No you can’t in the tier system so I doubt that’s changed.
Annabanana455 · 31/10/2020 20:51

I can’t see where it says grandparents can do childcare? Please can someone confirm. In my case it’s one set of grandparents and a regular arrangement

Eachpeachporch · 31/10/2020 20:53

New plan - DH is going to look after our son on Tuesdays and work Saturdays instead so one Grandad doesn't have to do childcare. It's a bummer but at least we have that option. Not everyone will!

My DS does exactly the same, we both work and it's our only option for childcare. Neither set of GPs care for other children.

You can. It's called an informal childcare arrangement bubble
MRex · 31/10/2020 21:25

No you cannot, it's one childcare bubble only. The updated rules are here: www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november#childcare-and-childrens-activities

Grobagsforever · 31/10/2020 21:39

Cummings drove across the entire country to access childcare.

Use your best judgement

Littleguggi · 31/10/2020 21:41

MaryShelley1818 I suspect there are many other people in our position. I can't find an alternative, I work in the NHS and my DH in education. Nursery have no other days available so we can't even increase her days there. What do you plan to do?

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/10/2020 21:41

If they want me to carry on teaching, which I am more than happy to do, then my mixed childcare arrangements will be continuing.
