Are hotels staying open?

Hi I can’t see any information on whether hotels will be open - anyone found any information on this? Due to go to London in about two weeks.

They’re open for business trips. Their restaurants won’t be open.

NiceViper · 01/11/2020 08:50

If you need to stay overnight for medical treatment, then I suggest you stay in the hospital.

I know that might be more expensive than staying in a hotel. But it's safer. And it's open.

Mindymomo · 01/11/2020 08:51

In the previous lockdown hotels operated on a room service basis for food cooked in hotel. I’m sure they will do the same this time round. Good luck with your operation.

DamitJanet · 01/11/2020 08:52

The answer hinged on the OP’s reason for travel though, no one was being the ‘morality police’ but the reason was wholly relevant, and will likely be for any hotels who might accept a booking.

Electricbugaloo · 01/11/2020 08:54

@ApolloandDaphne so you have to disclose all your personal information before you can get an answer to a question as the default is posters will assume you are trying to go on holidays to a city that is completely locked down during a pandemic? Ok then. Confused

@NiceViper just bizarre.
**@AvoidingRealHumans* @LadyPenelope68 I didn’t ask if I could* go stay in a hotel in London I asked if they were open under the new lockdown or not for when I go.

This thing of posters being the morality police when someone asks a question is getting very tiresome.
To avoid that you could visit the Gov.uk website for the acual full guidance as it currently stands rather than risk judgement and the rubbish that some posters think is the rules.

Electricbugaloo · 01/11/2020 08:55

Thanks @Mindymomo I will contact the hotel we’re planning to stay in and see if they will do same. I had a bit of a panic last night when rules came in and couldn’t find any information about them being open or not or whether we would be able to get food.

OP posts:
Electricbugaloo · 01/11/2020 08:57

Thanks @PleasantVille I did go on last night but just saw restaurants and pubs closed but couldn’t find hotels information. I probably looked too son after the announcement for it to be properly updated and panicked and asked on here.

@Electricbugaloo op you might want to check your operation/procedure still going ahead. With last surge the NHS took over private hospitals so would be worth checking. Fingers crossed for you

LadyPenelope68 · 01/11/2020 09:23

@Grobagsforever
Try not to be too hard on them all, it's their second official lockdown and they are very excited getting their copies of the rules laminated and setting up cameras on their neighbours.
Wondered when you’d crawl out of the woodwork and start slagging off people who want to do the right thing and try and reduce these infection rates.

I’m not sure how saying you’re staying in London for medical reasons is ‘disclosing personal information’ on an anonymous website, but ok

Grobagsforever · 01/11/2020 09:30

@LadyPenelope68

Well don't worry, you beat me to the thread in order to do your usual unsolicited COVID police role.

LadyPenelope68 · 01/11/2020 09:37

@Grobagsforever
Oh do crawl back under your stone.

Aridane · 01/11/2020 09:42

@Electricbugaloo

I am travelling to have an operation at a private hospital in London. I hope that is ok with you *@LadyPenelope68* *@Wales34* *@ApolloandDaphne* *@RainingBatsAndFrogs* Please do let me know if you are happy now I’ve shared my private personal reasons for travelling with you. Biscuit

As I said previously I know I can travel for medical reasons. I didn’t ask if I could. I asked whether hotels will be open or not as I couldn’t find specific guidance on this. Thank you all for instead piling on at what is already a stressful time and made more stressful by now having to go in lockdown instead of trying to help. If you didn’t know the answer you could’ve just ignored the thread but why miss the opportunity for a pile on eh!

Hi, OP - sorry you got the usual shitty responses, despite not having posted on AIBU.

I think the best thing to do is to contact the hospital as doubtless there will be other people in the same situation and the hospital will be having to signpost them on appropriate accommodation.

I hope your operation goes ahead as planned and wishing you a speedy recovery

Electricbugaloo · 01/11/2020 11:00

@LadyPenelope68 I see you have found someone else like @Grobagsforever to harass now I am no longer a suitable candidate.

LadyPenelope68 · 01/11/2020 11:07

@Electricbugaloo
Have you forgotten all the harassing private messages you sent me??? All were reported to Mumsnet, so don’t even start again.

Electricbugaloo · 01/11/2020 11:09

@LadyPenelope68 are you mad? I’ve never sent any poster a private message before never mind you multiples.

Was it only a week ago that we were advising you how quiet & safe London was at the moment and advising you of things to do.

Have you started your pre op quarantine yet?

I don’t know if hotels will be open (dh is a teacher and a p/t colleague of his stops in a hotel every week as he lives too far away from college) but one issue might be getting food if restaurants are closed.

Could you look into whether you could get a s/c apartment instead.

RaggieDolls · 01/11/2020 14:27

Lots of hotels I use for business travel had shut their restaurants on less popular days even pre COVID. They offer Deliveroo instead as it is more economical than running room service on a Monday night. I expect a lot of hotels might use this model again in the coming weeks so I am sure you will be able to get something to eat if the hotel itself is open.

Aridane · 01/11/2020 14:40

Oh you’ll be spoilt for choice for takeaways!

AnotherSlice · 01/11/2020 15:24

OP - posters can only give the info they know.

The info is, you can't stay away from home for a holiday.

It says other exemptions will be published later.

PP gave the info they could find, which is no holidays, but working is OK.

All you needed to say was 'it's not a holiday'. And I can't see where you said you knew you could travel for medical reasons before you had a go at those posters. Many of whom didn't mention any morality, jus gave you the info they had.

I would imagine that your circumstance will be allowed, check the Gvt website on Thursday, and I hope it goes smoothly.
