Does anyone know whether these will still be allowed to continue? Am thinking of sports my DC which are outdoor and steps have been taken to make more "Covid secure" since the summer. Am suspecting it's a no. Just trying to gauge as may be a while before hearing from their clubs.

The FA haven't officially said that grassroots football has to stop....yet. Our team manager has said training is still going ahead until it is confirmed otherwise, I hope this continues.

I just paid for this terms sports for DS, but expecting it not to run after Thursday. (Even though its outside) DD does dance but assuming this wont be on after this week.term finishes the first week if Dec so I expect that's it for the year. ..

Gutted my ds's sports are outdoor, covid secure, can accept they can't compete but can't even train. Im happy to sit in the car not go within 2m of another parent.Do this government not realise how important how important sport is to kids physical and mental health. Sorry but going for a walk just isn't the same (If I can get them out the door). Health is more than just avoiding covid.

Son's football coach wasn't sure when I asked today, I will be surprised if it continues as training is indoors.

ihearttc · 01/11/2020 19:34

I completely agree. DS’s football team have worked incredibly hard to make it Covid safe and the prospect of not even having training is really depressing. He has also been promoted to the elite part of his Club squad as well and hasn’t even managed to have the first session yet as they were still finishing the last season until half term, it was due to start on Friday!

What are we meant to do with our kids exactly..I've got 3 boys aged 8, 5 and 2. They don't attend much outside of school but were doing tennis. If school shuts I'm going to be furious. Kids can't just be locked up at home with only their parents and the odd walk or bike ride here and there. For most of them it's very damaging to their mental health and not to mention physical health.

CKBJ · 01/11/2020 19:41

Surely it doesn’t matter how “Covid secure” sports have been made it is just increasing contact with different groups of people when the idea is to curb interactions. My DS will be gutted if football is stopped again but it brings together boys from 4 different schools and that’s without including coaches who also have jobs. It took so long to bring cases down in the last lockdown and that was with schools closed, no sport etc if we only want this lockdown to last 4weeks and keep schools open everything else needs to be put on hold.

timeforanewstart · 01/11/2020 20:18

My ds plays footie and rugby and we are waiting for clarification its being assumed no , but not confirmed but sky put no but don't know if they have the info
Rugby for example has different stages of play allowed
I guess we will find out more tomorrow, my ds will be gutted if cancelled but if is then so be it as it lessens there contacts
Yes they have large bubbles at school but at team sport there is potentially kids from 6/ 7 schools

Ratatcat · 01/11/2020 20:21

Mine will miss activities but it is completely logical that they have to stop. Business are being shut to keep schools open. Extra activities are additional risks especially as children are mixing across schools.

notevenat20 · 01/11/2020 20:25

Does that mean that school sport carried out within a school bubble will also be banned? That seems a bit odd while the schools are open.

wonderstuff · 01/11/2020 20:26

I'll be gutted if football training stops, feels much safer than going to school and just as valuable. I can understand suspending matches, but outdoor training must be very low risk.
