AIBU lockdown

The figures are alarming. As Boris says, if it continues, medics will be choosing between who to save.
But... the premier league is still on.
Is this a joke?

@Sooki6 the premier league have their protocol in place. They stay in a bubble and are tested continuously.
Not looking forward to another lockdown but the two can't be compared.

FromageRay · 31/10/2020 19:46

Why can't we choose to do that then?

BurningMam · 31/10/2020 19:50

Why shouldn't the Premier League be on? There are fewer people in that than in one secondary school and they have far more ability to control the spread of Covid than one school. Do you actually think the Premier League is any risk?

Sooki6 · 31/10/2020 19:52

My belief is that schools are one of the biggest catalysts. For me, it just sounds like a joke that he should talk so seriously about this pandemic and then put a thumbs up to the premier league.

It seems wrong that football players are tested frequently but teachers, care assistants, nurses and other at risk groups are not tested often.

secretllama · 31/10/2020 19:54

You're right... cancel it! No joy allowed!!

Sooki6 · 31/10/2020 19:55

I’m a teacher and so I have to agree.

Sooki6 · 31/10/2020 19:57

@secretllama it’s not about joy! My joy would be eating in a pub, drinking a coffee in a coffee shop, seeing a group of friends. Joy is personal. This is about how serious it’s all supposed to be but how flippant I think the government can be.

The fact you’ve even taken the time to write this is pathetic.

A, footballers have strict protocols and testing in place.

B, there is no spectators so know one is travelling anywhere to watch games etc...

MaskingForIt · 31/10/2020 19:59

Football clubs pay for their own testing and analysis - is isn’t being funded by the NHS/public purse.

If schools want to pay for their own testing they could have their teachers tested daily, but they don’t want to spend money on it.

1stV45 · 31/10/2020 20:02

1)Everyone has been told they should continue to go to work if they can't wfh.

2)It remains to be seen what this means for organised sport, once the detail is out.

3)The Premisership organises and pays for it's own testing regime, the players need a clear test before they're allowed to play.

4)How exactly would cancelling this one bit of fun reduce anyone's risk anywhere?

TeenPlusTwenties · 31/10/2020 20:03

Schools don't have the funding for it.

Schools don't have the funding for it.

They’ll be reliant on the NHS’s offerings then.

Shouldn’t stop other companies/organisations (ie football clubs) paying for it for their staff though.

Exactly this. Especially #1. They're working. The staff and all the support people are working. Why should they not be allowed to work?
mynameiscalypso · 31/10/2020 20:09

And lots of companies are paying for regular tests for staff - DS' nursery is for example.

Littleposh · 31/10/2020 20:15

Probably because most of the countries infections aren't being caused by the premier league. Makes sense when you actually give something some thought
