How to support DH?

With news of an impending lockdown, it looks very likely that the company DH works for will shut down. The rest of his industry is likely to be the same which will make finding another job very difficult.

He's already reacting very negatively. He's been working from home since Feb and aside from food shopping and seeing his parents a handful of times, he's not been out. I've made suggestions to help support his mental health but he won't engage with anything.

What can I say/do to help make the inevitable less awful?

This is a real tough one I'm so sorry for you and your husband. My husband has also been struggling and I've found the thing that has the most positive impact is little acts of kindness. Cup of coffee in bed, hot soup in a mug for a snack when he is working. A date night package- 5 bags with different things in, one with Scrabble box, one with painting stuff in, one with cupcake ingredients etc (doesn't need to be expensive) get him to pick a number out the hat and do that date night package for the week. Leaving him notes. The kinder I am the better he is getting. Xxx hope this helps. Do remember yourself though and take some time out for you.

That's really helpful, thank you. He's not normally a date night person but we have some games and puzzles that I think he would engage with. The notes are a really good idea.

I'm ok, I will still be going to work which is good for me but also leaves him home alone all day. I hope you're ok too.

Thanks, yes my husband not into dates but im finding seeing as I went to the bother, he will join in reluctantly at first then will start to enjoy himself and we'll have a really nice time. Have also set up some zooms playing scattergories/quizs with friends. DH hates zoom so I say don't worry you don't have to join in and start on my own. He usually wanders in and joins in and then has a nice time and yesterday he actually suggested to zoom someone to play scattergories!! So gently gently catchy monkey ifysim. Take care and hope you see some improvements Flowers

I've been thinking of some ideas of things we can do. I hope it'll relieve some of the stress. Slowly slowly is definitely the way, I know his family are wanting to do some zoom quizzes so that'll be good to get going with.
