Holiday in England from Wales?

orangejuicer · 31/10/2020 16:51

An entirely selfish post, please bear with me, but given the new measures which are being announced later today for England, am I likely to be permitted to have a week's break in England starting 14 Nov? Wales' firebreak will be over by then so it depends what our restrictions are but is there anything in the English restrictions which would stop me?

Why not wait until after the update from Boris which should be some time tonight. I wouldn't be going anywhere tbh

flapjackfairy · 31/10/2020 17:31

We will be on full lockdown so no you will not be able to come for a week's holiday surely. Just as we have been banned from going to Wales on holiday for the last few weeks and months !

orangejuicer · 31/10/2020 17:35

I assume not but I haven't seen anything yet in what's been leaked to say that we can't.

Robert Peston is leaking that it's travel for business purposes only...

Because, apparently he's now the official communication channel from No 10. God forbid they do their dirty work themselves.

chipsandpeas · 31/10/2020 17:51

id say no its not going to happen

I get that, but I'm assuming it applies to residents in England, so Wales would need to issue a 'no travel to England' policy like Nicola Sturgeon has for Scotland.

Travel is supposed to be for essential purposes only. Not holidays.

Sadly I'm inclined to agree with you.

In England it will be yes, not sure for Wales after the firebreak until it's confirmed.

I think I’ve read all hospitality closed and that includes accommodation

timeforanewstart · 31/10/2020 18:10

Well if hospitality is closed and no staying with others then how could you ?

Even self catered cottages?

And i hope he allows no travel from scotland or wales as pointless us doing it , if people cAn come across the border and stay
Obviously exceptional circumstances such as care etc

Brighterthansunflowers · 31/10/2020 18:20

Well wait til after the announcement is actually made for a bloody start!

But I would expect nonessential travel to be not allowed and for accommodation to be forced to close.

That was the issue in Wales for weeks when we were under county lockdowns but people from areas outside, including England, could travel as they pleased. Boris wouldn't take a shared approach to it, so it wasn't fair but neither would this be.

And yeah I'll wait for it, I was waiting at 5pm, but Peston has basically tweeted what's happening so I was hoping for some thoughts, that's all.

How about people stay put for a few weeks to try and reduce the spread. Confused

I'm in Wales, we HAVE been doing that for weeks. The "let's live with the virus" brigade have a lot to answer for.

Op
Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes.

Good, let's face it we don't need people from tier 3 or 4 or Wales spreading it far and wide. Stay put. Maybe if everyone does for the full lock down month then it will get betterHmm

flapjackfairy · 31/10/2020 22:36

We are in England and have a caravan in Wales in a lockdown area . We haven't been able to visit for weeks now so it is the same thing .
And even if you could book a cottage what would you do ? Everything is closed?

HotToCold · 31/10/2020 22:39

No essential travel only

Nothing will be open here for you anyway!!!!!

U8myufo · 31/10/2020 23:02

No it won't be allowed unless for a small number of exceptions and almost everything will be closed in any case. A while back we had people traveling here to Wales from high risk areas of England that were in local restrictions coming into the low risk areas of Wales and even now people are trying to figure how to bend the rules to travel to their second homes and escape their own impending lockdown. We've all just got to apply a bit of common sense across the board surely

Newenw · 31/10/2020 23:11

Surely people would have to obey England’s rules once they traveled out of Wales? I can’t believe the number of people who are looking for exceptions, not just on this thread.

SpamIAm · 31/10/2020 23:20

They don't need to implement a restriction on people travelling from wales though OP, as soon as you cross the border it's the English laws that apply to you, which will state that non-essential travel is not allowed. The rules aren't for English people, they're for people in England.

And to be fair regarding English people travelling to Wales during local lockdowns, they weren't allowed to travel to lockdown areas (but of course it was ludicrous that they could eg visit Pembrokeshire with over 800 cases a week per 100000, when we were getting locked down at 100 cases).
