Worried sick for my finances and my home :(

My job relies on people starting contracts, almost all the clients I work with have paused contracts since March.

Things have been just picking up ever so slightly, enough for me to stay float and pay my mortgage.

I don’t know how I will financially survive a second lockdown. I am already at the bottom of my overdraft.

I felt sick reading the notification about a second Lockdown this morning

No advice but I'm sorry this is such a worrying time for you. I hope the announcement later today brings some concrete information and not just waffle and it all affects you as little as possible Thanks

Same here OP - I’ve just about survived the first lockdown but this will he the final nail in the coffin. We’re going to lose our home and I’m petrified.

I'm so sorry. I feel so much for anyone at risk of losing a job or their home right now. You aren't alone in that that is lots of people. This is all so unfair.

I think the government will have to look at putting some kind of help in place to stop people losing their homes. It will cost them less in the short term than letting people become homeless.

Thank you for the kind messages. I hope so too.

It’s just so frustrating, I’m not in an industry that has been shut down or prevented like the performing arts; but it’s the business uncertainty that has just caused all clients to completely pause any work they were due to commence.

Sorry you are going through this. A second lockdown will put the nail into the coffin of my husband's business. Similar to you we don't have to shut for lockdown, people just aren't spending money. The sad thing is we can't afford to close it with redundancy, insurances, tax still owed so we will probably have to go into administration. These are worrying times.

InvisibleString · 31/10/2020 14:25

@Alexandernevermind

I think people think that lockdowns just affect those businesses that rely on footfall, but there is a whole economic chain that gets disrupted when you stop one section of the economy.

My DH works in commercial property management and has virtually no work since Marc h. Just going to an office is responsible for so many jobs.

We are in the same position. I have come to hate people who love lockdowns.

NekoShiro · 31/10/2020 15:21

The only advice I can offer is don't feel afraid or embarassed to call up companies and negotiate paying them late if your money gets to thin, I've had to do this before to get through a lean time and I was so surprised at how reasonable and helpful they were

TheKeatingFive · 31/10/2020 15:29

I’m so sorry OP. Many people are in this position and it’s so hard to hear the comfortable bleating on about lockdowns when they don’t give a shit about the pressures others are facing.

The only thing I’d say is that there will be significant pressure on the banks to go easy on people for a long while to come. Investigate all your options for support. There is more out there thsn just government. Facebook were offering grants for small business, for example.
