What’s the legal position on doing the school run if you’re isolating as a contact?

This worries me. If I’m told to isolate by t&t as they think I’m a contact, what happens with the school run (assuming kids are not contacts and don’t need to isolate?). Do you get fined if your child (yr 5) doesn’t go to school as no one to get them there? Or do you risk a fine by driving them but not getting out of the car yourself?

I want to do the right thing but I don’t know what that is! No one else to take them as we live in a different direction to the other parents I know. Too far from the school for a 10 year old to walk it alone.

Is anyone actually getting fined for these circumstances, where you can’t do right for doing wrong?

Or do I just not go out anywhere except the supermarket until April, so am not anyone’s contact?

I read something yesterday, although I can’t remember where now unfortunately, that said it was a grey area and people would just be expected to do what they could. I would do the car drop off - you’re not coming into contact with anyone then.

Alternatively ring the school and ask for their advice - our headteacher picked up and dropped off one of our children for a week when their parents were isolating.

You won’t be fined. There is a code for the register children off school due to coronavirus (symptoms, positive cases, contacts and those who can not attend due to a parent/sibling being a contact) that does not affect the attendance or trigger fines. Good job really considering how often bubbles are bursting in my area.

I'd ring the school - we've had kids off from ours because parents are isolating and can't get them to school, and it's not been an issue.
