Predictable idiocy, but I don't see the national outrage and media shitstorm that the city of Liverpool got the other week over one video (including on here).

Pretty inevitable when they've been threatening it for weeks, finally set a date only to then delay by 24 hours.

You'd think the government might have learned by now.

LolalovesLondon · 30/10/2020 14:27

They are the reason pubs/bars/nightlife need to close. Idiots.

ILoveMyMonkey · 30/10/2020 14:32

It's so unfair on the locals because, from looking at that video, all those idiots are student age so possibly uni students. Maybe if they hadn't gone back to uni there wouldn't be a spike in Nottingham pushing them into tier 3. Although ultimately the government are to blame for giving notice, no notice no last minute parties.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 30/10/2020 14:44

So, people who were allowed to go out went out? Is that it? What am I missing?

Why they do this every time is beyond me. The worst was when they announced back in March they were shutting the pubs but left them open for the Friday night. Therefore loads go out for one last night out.

This is why a lot of the measures, in other countries as well as here, heavily feature ways to reduce alcohol consumption. People who would ordinarily take care lose all their inhibitions once they're drunk 🤷‍♂️

GoingBackTo505 · 30/10/2020 15:00

I don't think it's fair to blame just students. They were told by unis and the government to go back to uni. What were they supposed to do? There were no restrictions on people going out last night. They shouldn't have been given so much notice. It was obvious what was going to happen.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/10/2020 15:01

I'm in Nottingham and I don't understand why we are going in to tier 3 now, and not two weeks ago, when we had the highest rated in the country. Apparently our rules are also tougher than normal teir 3, no sitting in coffee shops. Sad

I listened to a programme made by students on this. Many of them had covid parties so they would already have had it by Christmas, and be able to go home without putting their parents at risk.

Is it? If they can isolate from the wider population while they have it then why not? They have a very low likelihood of complication. Managed group infection could be the new way to beat it.

I heard that Freda - some of the students sounded sensible, others were.........not.

I think Nottingham has been really badly treated. The endless dithering about if and when we will go up a tier has really undermined the public health messages. It’s been exhausting.
I’m disappointed but not surprised by the scenes in the city last night.

The absolutely vast majority of students have followed the rules, but with 45,000 students in the City there will always be some rule breakers. In the absence of a government support package the Universities had no choice but to encourage the students to come back. If they hadn’t the Universities would have gone bust. The whole mess is firmly the government’s fault, not the students or the Uni’s.

Yes, in my opinion it is madness a) because there is no proof of any substantial long term immunity and b) why would you willingly choose to get sick even if the risk to yourself is minimal you might end up being that very tiny percent who dies.

PostItJoyWeek · 30/10/2020 17:10

Ilovemymonkey For the reasons they stated: to be immune at Christmas.

They take the v low risk now. Thus they are definitely not carriers in December due to antibodies definitely present, even if they fade later, thus protecting their granny when they visit at Christmas.

WitchesSpelleas · 30/10/2020 17:13

Hmm, I'm waiting to see what pandemonium ensues this weekend in West Yorkshire.

The government, in its infinite wisdom, has once again given a region one last weekend in which to party before the pubs shut.
