Do I need a test?!

I'm currently self isolating (I'm on day 10!) after my Aunt tested positive. I had met up with her for lunch, so reasonably close contact, prior to her diagnosis a few days after.
I feel totally fine, maybe a bit grotty but I'm normally a very busy, active person so I think it's just cabin fever! Today I have a very upset tummy (diarrhoea Shock) which is not like me at all.
A quick google search suggests it's a lesser common covid symptom but obviously not on the list of 'criteria' for test eligibility. So I'd basically have to lie to get a test!
Can anyone more knowledgable advise me on this?

Anyone? My finger is hovering over 'book test' but I'm unsure!

Previously (haven't looked recently) there is an "I have none of the main symptoms" option whilst booking, so you don't lie as such.

CovidPostingName · 29/10/2020 12:16

I would, given that you're a close contact with a confirmed positive.

Mindymomo · 29/10/2020 12:17

You won’t be offered a test on this symptom as it’s not one of the 3 recognised symptoms, but it’s up to you. You could get a test today, but then have to wait 3/4 days before you get a result but by then you would be out of isolation.

Bramblespoint · 29/10/2020 12:21

I wouldn't. You are in isolation anyway. Wait to see if it develops into anything else

Augustbreeze · 29/10/2020 12:30

If you get a symptom whilst isolating and then test positive you start a new ten day isolation period:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/nhs-test-and-trace-if-youve-been-in-contact-with-a-person-who-has-coronavirus/

  • this paragraph, about people who are already isolating as a close contact:

If you test positive (you have coronavirus):

• self-isolate for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started – even if it means you're self-isolating for longer than 14 days

lljkk · 29/10/2020 13:35

I wouldn't. It's not a qualifying symptom. You are in isolation anyway. Wait to see if it develops into anything else.

My gut feeling (see what I did there? Grin) was to wait and see. I'll see what tomorrow brings!

My family member had diarrhoea and tested positive, also had continuous cough

I vomited the day after I tested which is very unlike me, also temperature and felt v dizzy, also positive

McFarts · 29/10/2020 15:17

My friend tested positive a few weeks ago, first symptoms was a cough. The thing is, she had only been in close contact with her DC, they had both been off school the week before with what she had assumed was a tummy bug. Id get a test.

StatisticalSense · 29/10/2020 15:21

@MissSmiley @McFarts
So the key piece of information in all 3 of those cases is that one of the main symptoms for testing was present.

Yes, however my friend had only been in contact with her own children (she complex health conditions and has only been out of the house 3 times since Feb) she must have caught it from her children, who hadnt been poorly with any covid symptoms, but both had a tummy bug. That or it came in with her food delivery or the post.
