Anyone else been selected to do the antibody test?

I got a letter a couple of weeks ago and registered then they sent the test equipment to me in the post.

I've just done the test - ghastly flashbacks to those years of peeing on a stick!

Although in this case it's a finger-prick test

Results are negative and I'm just about to upload them to the website. Wondering if anyone else has done it and if they got a positive? I did wonder if I'd had COVID at the start of the year but it's looking unlikely (although the test doesn't tell you for certain)

Trying to explain to DD7 what I'm doing and feeling a bit sad about it!

Has no one heard about the results of the react-2 study which says that they now think antibodies only last 6 - 12 months as the % of the population who have antibodies has reduced which is inconsistent with more people having had covid.

So perfectly possible to have had covid earlier this year and test negative for antibodies now under this logic...

I did the one you register for on gov.uk as someone who works in social care.

Bloody hurts! I was pouring with blood from my finger and it's still sore a week later!!

Sent it away and got a text a day later saying negative.

I was really unwell in May with burning lungs and coughing. Negative test then too. I'd love to know what it was - seems such a weird coincidence that I was ill like that and never have been before.

Oh well.

I got the letter and registered but haven't received a test yet.

I did mine yesterday and it was negative. I was ill mid March.

skelesheridan · 28/10/2020 23:09

Me. Did it yesterday. Got a positive result for long lasting antibodies

skelesheridan · 28/10/2020 23:10

I'm a teacher and was mildly poorly in March

Barryisland · 28/10/2020 23:15

Why are you sad about explaining it to your daughter?

weehoo · 29/10/2020 01:32

@Barryisland I think it was because it made me realise what strange times we live in and how hard it is to explain to children.

Also, she has been exposed to so much medical stuff already (she has a genetic condition which required a lot of medical treatment in hospital during lockdown, plus she has had a separate life threatening illness which was closely followed (coincidentally) by me having one too (we both recovered)

I just felt a bit bad about her witnessing yet more medical stuff

I've done 2 if them. Imperial college tests i think. One in May/June & the other in August/September. Both showed positive for antibodies which wasn't a surprise because DH was incredibly ill with Covid & almost died back in March/April & I became ill in April in-between his 2 hospital visits. Luckily DD was able to take care of us both. I'm hoping ill get another test soon.

midnightstar66 · 29/10/2020 04:34

My oh did one today and it was negative. He had all the symptoms back in February so we thought he may have had it but I guess not.

Not necessarily. My friend, a nurse, had confirmed covid and was quite unwell yet has never returned a positive antibody test.

Orangeblossom7777 · 29/10/2020 13:55

Yes research has shown they drop over the first weeks / months and quite a few don't have them, in particular mild cases / young people I think it was.

So it may not mean they have not had the virus. Especially if it was months ago like in the spring

wonder how accurate these ones are compared to e.g. Roche ones

Mandalorian · 29/10/2020 15:08

DH had one back in September. Watching him build up the courage to pricking his finger was probably the funniest thing I've seen in ages.
Poor bloke was covered in sweat and shaking.

He did finally manage it after about half an hour of faffing. It was negative.

Flamingosarentreal · 31/10/2020 12:20

Just done mine and it was positive for both.
