Anyone else put the tree up yet?

My kids are begging me.

Pumpkins first people, pumpkins first!

Jenasaurus · 28/10/2020 19:13

OMG, I remember one year, I ordered a tree from the states, it was from Treetopia, and it was a large silver tinsel tree (pre lit) as it had to be returned withn 14 days if not OK, I opened it up and checked it all in October. It was beautiful and took a while to set up, open the branches and check the lights all worked. It was so much effort to put up I decided to keep it up, put a black bin bag on it and called it a Halloween decoration! My grown up DD still give me stick about it now :)

Brazillio · 28/10/2020 19:13

What?! No! Not yet!!!!

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/10/2020 19:45

Cover it with all sorts of orange decorations and make it into a halloween tree. Then replace with garish multicoloured decorations for bonfire night. Then take everything off and allow them to add one decoration a day all the way to Christnas.

BikeRunSki · 28/10/2020 19:51

Autumn to Christmas goes
DD’s birthday
Half term
Pumpkins
Fireworks
My birthday
Ballet show
Then tree

Tree does not go up until after DD’s ballet show. She hasn’t done ballet for about 3 years, but it was a good yardstick for being nearly Christmas. (We could never put the tree up before the show, because otherwise she didn’t have enough space to practice).

actiongirl1978 · 28/10/2020 19:53

No but I booked our collection slot for December and paid for the tree today.

We have fairy lights up throughout the house and in two outdoor spots. Very cheering.

Suzi888 · 28/10/2020 19:54

No! Grin goes up the last weekend in November here!

SirVixofVixHall · 28/10/2020 19:57

What ?
And WHAT ?

CoronaIsWatching · 28/10/2020 20:01

It's terribly downmarket to put it up before at least 15th December..

Trekkerbabe · 28/10/2020 21:02

I admit to having a bit of a trashy side!

I agree with all of you. Its madness.... but I admit to being tempted.

A tree and fairy lights. It sings positivity, happiness and the newborn.

Everything opposite to what we are living right now!

Would anyone care to join me or are you all firm Decemberites?

DDs birthday is mid November so we do the tree a couple of weeks later usually last weekend in November sometimes the one before. In previous years we started going to see Santa the first weekend possible, usually first weekend in November. However they are now 11 and 13 and not too fussed on seeing Santa now 😔 I have Heart Xmas on in the car already though!!

SirVixofVixHall · 29/10/2020 10:38

Ours normally goes up the evening before Christmas Eve. Occasionally anything up to a week before. Stays up until Twelfth night.

CrunchyCarrot · 29/10/2020 10:43

What? In October? Hahahahaha. No, ours goes up a week before Christmas. Only I just realised this year it won't, because we've now got 2 kittens and trees and kittens don't mix, so will be going for less-enticing decorations instead!

ItsNotPinkItsSalmon · 29/10/2020 10:46

November for me.
But I say if you want it up and the kids do why not!
It's been a tough year so why not if it makes everyone happy Smile

RedskyAtnight · 29/10/2020 11:13

Why is this is in the Coronavirus topic? Has putting up of a Christmas tree been linked to higher or lower transmission levels?

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 29/10/2020 11:37

Halloween /Bon Fire night fairy lights?

I must say, im coming round to the Canadian side of my family's approach of decorating the whole house for Halloween with a general autumnal feel, not just "spooky" things outside. This combined with a friend who is from the Netherlands who decorates with wooden painted eggs at Easter has made me think the UK approach of only having indoor "event" decorations at Christmas is a bit crap.

As we are stuck indoors this year, how about more autumnal decorations. Then take them down end of November and put up your new Christmas stuff 2nd week of December when you are ready to go again with decorations.

peridito · 29/10/2020 11:48

I think this thread shouldn't be in the MN coronavirus section but I'm happy to add to the confusion .

I picked up a rooted Norway Spruce from Homebase yesterday .I'm feeling doubtful about what to expect for Christmas ( combination of potential for Covid lockdown and family illness ) so thought I'd tick one box .

It'll be staying outside until end Nov .

Trekkerbabe · 29/10/2020 20:35

You're right it should be in the xmas topic. Sorry that was my mistake.

The forecast is so dire this weekend we might just do it.

On Sunday obvs... Gotta be after Halloween 🙃🙄

Will anyone else be quarantining their tree this year? What disinfection methods are people using? Dettol spray?

timothytoeseatenbyaghoul · 04/11/2020 18:25

I put mine up on Monday.🎄

FuzzyPuffling · 04/11/2020 18:44

Someone in our village has put all their Christmas decorations up. It looks bizarre. And also a bit on the disrespectful side as it is very visible from the War Memorial.

Trees ought to go up on Christmas Eve.

Rabbitholebonkers · 04/11/2020 18:45

Nar, it’s Autumn.
