Move between tiers

Borntobeamum · 28/10/2020 15:47

I live In a Medium risk area and go to a ‘club’ also in same tier.
The club is deemed to be ‘Covid safe’.
Some members of the ‘club’ are now in tier 3 and have asked the owner of the ‘club’ if they can still visit. He has said yes they can.
I think they shouldn’t come as it’s not essential travel, just a social activity.
Who is right?
I dont want to be a killjoy by any means but I’d appreciate opinions.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.

“You can meet with others in public outdoor places, such as beaches or parks, but only in groups of up to 6 people.

You can only meet indoors or in private outdoor spaces, such as someone's garden, or hospitality venues with those in your household or support bubble. “

They can’t visit. They keep their home tier when they travel.

ChaChaCha2012 · 28/10/2020 15:49

You're allowed to move between areas. If you do say anything I expect they'll recommend you stay at home.

ChaChaCha2012 · 28/10/2020 15:50

@CraftyGin You're still allowed to attend arranged sports groups.

That’s not the OP’s scenario.

My section in quotes is for tier 3.
AlfieandAnnieRose · 28/10/2020 15:57

The government is advising against nearly all travel for those in tier 3 areas.
You should try to avoid travelling outside the very high alert level area you are in,” and “should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK if you are resident in a very high alert level area,” reads the advice.

Advice is not law. People are allowed to travel.

Can you elaborate on what type of group it is you attend please Born?

RedToothBrush · 28/10/2020 16:04

They can't meet other people - unless it falls under a specific exemption. There isn't anything to say they can't go to a restaurant if they are t3. And that includes outside t3.

So club where they meet people for tennis league not ok if on private property.
-Unless the are under 18 in a youth group which have dispensation to keep running

  • or they are a professional tennis player in a tournament.

Tennis in a playing field with 5 others is ok.

Tennis at a club where they hire a court for their household but don't mix with anyone else also ok.

Also theres nothing to say they cant do these activities in a t2 or t1 area, but they must otherwise follow t3 rules and leaving the t3 area is not advised but also not illegal.

Clear? Of course you are!

(yeah i know its ridiculous)

Borntobeamum · 28/10/2020 17:16

It’s a slimming group.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 28/10/2020 17:19

So meeting other people and not under an exemption rule.

Which makes it illegal regardless of where it is if you are resident in t3.

The virus is circulating because people are nitpicking about advice vs law.

Just do the right thing and stay at home.

The leper card attaches to the person, not the area. So any person under Tier 3 restrictions is bound by those restrictions even if they find themselves in another part of the country with a different tier.

PurpleDaisies · 28/10/2020 18:32

Tier 3 restrictions vary from area to area. You need to check the local guidelines.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 28/10/2020 18:37

If it is SW, they have been told they are a commercial business and thus no matter what tier, they can remain open and people can attend from any other tier also.

I queried it as I was uncomfortable staying to group but wanted to weigh (I want to minimise my risk of self isolation). As it is the centre decided to close anyway, so now we doing a weigh outside the centre followed by a zoom in the evening.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/10/2020 19:51

I'm not convinced the club is allowed to run even in tier 1. It doesn;t seem to fit into any of the exceptions.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/10/2020 19:56

There is an exemption for face-to-face support groups, but suspect that is aimed at things like Alcoholics Anonymous etc.

DarceyDashwood · 29/10/2020 07:15

SW is clear they are allowed to continue to operate under the current rules as long as they follow Covid-secure guidelines. My group is just a ‘weigh and go’ one anyway so wouldn’t be classed as a gathering anyway.

Borntobeamum · 29/10/2020 08:27

Thank you everyone. Yes it is SW.
The group is still being run as usual, pay, weigh and sit 2 meters apart for group.
