Confused about self isolation

I tested positive for coronavirus yesterday and got a text to say to self isolate for 10 days from when symptoms started. However, my partner tested positive today and have received a text to self isolate for 14 days as I live with my partner. Do I need to isolate for 14 or 10 days?

I think it’s 14 days

However I got an email of the LA through out school that’s says if you’ve been in close contact with some one with Covid you have to isolate for 14 days even if you have tested negative Confused

10 days each. You would have had to isolate for 14 days of you hadn't tested positive yourself. It would be a standard text sent out to close contacts

Yes, a negative test doesn't bring you out of your 14 day isolation any earlier as you are in the incubation period

I'd ring 119 and check?

I’m glad you asked this question as dh had contact with someone on Sunday who tested positive yesterday. He got tested this morning as he is a key worker but we were unsure whether he would still need to self isolate if the test is negative. I guess I’ve got him at home for two weeks then. Grin

10 days - I expect that’s just an automatic text.

14 days as a contact; this doesn't change if the contact gets a negative test.
10 if symptomatic and pos.

girlsyearapart · 28/10/2020 15:08

The person who tests positive isolates for ten days from the first day of their symptoms or positive test if they didn’t have symptoms
The close contacts isolate for 14 days to cover incubation time
Seems a bit unfair as the positive person ( in our case dh ) ‘gets out’ 4 days earlier than the rest of the household but it’s just the way it is

Which I get - however that’s going off assuming you have it. How many employees are going to allow people to have multiple fortnights off? Where do they draw the line?

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 15:35

They shouldn't be drawing any lines tbh. If the law tells you to isolate then that's what you do

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 15:36

And they need to assume you may have it. You may test negative on day 3 but end up positive on day 6.

PositivelyConfused23 · 28/10/2020 15:48

So I only need to isolate for 10 days then

Yes, because 14 days is to take into account the incubation period to see if you get symptoms. You have already tested positive so its 10 days for you
