I know things are really really tough for many people at the moment and life has permanently changed in different ways for different people but I just wanted a thread where we have a discussion about what people are looking forward to for when the worst of the pandemic is properly behind us. I need cheering up today after an extremely sad day. Positive contributions very welcome, with no disrespect meant to those of you who have big reasons why you can't see any positives or are struggling badly right now

I am looking forward to being completely free to meet up with a group of people in a pub and having no concerns about numbers/not getting close to other people/not thinking about what the risks are in terms of virus numbers in my local area

I'm looking forward to going on a proper walking holiday. I don't care where and I don't need it to be anything expensive - just being free to meet new people and try new food/see new sights will be bliss.

There are a few people in particular who I can't wait to hug. Properly hug - free from worry about spreading the virus or catching it or that person worrying about who is watching because they aren't in my bubble, blah blah blah

I'm looking forward to being at some summer event where there are crowds of happy people, children running around and live music playing. And stalls of lovely food.

Over to you!

Arena gigs and festivals.

Holiday with guaranteed sun.

Being able to plan without needing deathly accuracy of the timing of booking. Book too early and you might have to isolate and miss it. Try to book too late and it’s fully booked.

jasjas1973 · 27/10/2020 18:00

Going on holiday & getting away from rainy cold UK, then riding my bike in Mallorca with a big group of friends and sitting in a busy cafe eating Almond cake with coffee.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/10/2020 18:02

Hugging my parents.
Having a holiday.
Not having to wear PPE.
A night out with friends.
Going out for dinner or to a cafe without having to weigh up if it's worth the risk of self-isolating for 2 weeks because someone else in there tested positive.
Being able to comfort others with a hug.

Rabbitholebonkers · 27/10/2020 18:26

Concerts. I really hope graduations come back. I missed mine but I will have the opportunity to book again with the OU. I really hope I get too.

Hug my parents, travel. I had a 6 month trip planned, should have been leaving this month.
I’m gutted I’m missing the trip but when this is all over it’s holding my lovely mum in my arms that I’m most excited about.

How gutting. Which countries do you want to see? I'd love to go to India and do a lot more of Scandinavia.

Sitting in the yard talking to people, summer fêtes and winter celebrations, communal choirs, theatres, get togethers, live music of the real instruments and real singers variety - all the simple things that community brings and that do not cost money.
Visiting DGAunt in her care home and taking her out for the day and taking her room mate with us brecause we can.
Watching Schalke against Dortmund in a full stadium with my DBIL, who supports the wrong team.
Having DD going to uni and meeting people outside of zoom.
Seeing DS getting his school leaving certificate with a celebration for parents, teachers and pupils.
And so on ...

stayathomer · 27/10/2020 18:49

Seeing my mum and bro and hugging them. Visiting my sis and bro and hugging them!! Soft play, the hairdresser, beautician, standing at the school gate chatting normally, swimming lessons (kids and me!), cinema!

IrkedEssex · 27/10/2020 18:49

Going back to Tier 1, which we never should have left.

I'd love to try Parkrun. I've really got into running this year

Meeting friends with no fear, eating out and takeaways, theatre, swimming, travel and concerts.

I know a few of those can be done now but don’t feel the same or not worth the risk.

Triangularbubble · 27/10/2020 19:41

Being relatively sure my kids will be at school when they are meant to be.

Mindymomo · 27/10/2020 19:59

Not wearing masks.
Going to the theatre and cinema.
Feel safe in shops when it gets busy.
Just walking into a pub/restaurant without having to book days before.
Knowing that everyone is safe.
The elderly can get back to day centres and seeing friends and relatives.
The young can go clubbing.
My two sons will be safe going out.

AbstractDot · 27/10/2020 20:01

Going in my Mum and Dad's apartmentand hugging them, we got brief masked up/faces away hugs in during the summer when cases very low.

Having my best friend and her child round for playdates or coffee when kids are at school.

Visiting friends houses

My husbands income going back up (totally first world as we're doing fine, it's the extra I will enjoy)!

Being able to take my DD swimming without having to book in advance

Having my DD babysat so me and DH can go out for food on an evening.

A proper girls night out

Cinema

dollychopss · 27/10/2020 20:04

Drogonssmile · 27/10/2020 20:50

To organise and look forward to a holiday.
To not dread the call/message from school saying the bubble burst and not knowing how I'm going to cover the time off work.
To be able to let my sons play in their friends houses and vice versa.
To see my Dad who I haven't seen since January 😢 he lives in Scotland and has Parkinson's.
To be able to go out for a big family meal to a lovely pub.
To go to park run again.
To have patients back in clinics at work instead of crappy phone/video consultations.
To recover my mental health that has nosedived recently.
